This book presents the long-awaited and in-depth research on the practice and work of the architect, artist and 'orbanist' (global urbanist) luc Deleu (1944, Duffel, B). Deleu has been working on 'orbanism' since the 1970s. This approach to urbanism is critical, sociological and ecological and is highly relevant to such contemporary themes as environmental pollution, overpopulation, food production and individual versus community.

Since its inception, T.O.P. office has boosted architecture as an uncompromising social tool to persistently question the terrestrial scale and the delicate balance with mankind. Whichever way you turn it, Earth - the orb - is the undeniable alpha and omega for any future stance, action or intervention. An insight Luc Deleu & T.O.P. office have never failed to underscore - or challenge.Armed with an unsparing but humorous logic, a firm belief in the freedom of the individual, and a persistent commitment to ecology, T.O.P. office continues to hold up a mirror to society. Always unsolicited. Simply because they have to. For this publication, editors Peter Swinnen and Anne Judong were given unlimited access to the archives of T.O.P. office. The title is also the filter through which to examine the living archive. Which projects - whether conceived in the 1970s or 2000s - retain the intelligent promise of a future plan. And how can they enlighten designers, architects, urban planners, ecologists, cultural workers, administrations and policymakers of today and tomorrow. A future plan in itself.

Transdisciplinary Knowledge Production In Architecture And Urbanism written by Isabelle Doucet and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-01-13 with Social Science categories.

The volume addresses the hybridisation of knowledge production in space-related research. In contrast with interdisciplinary knowledge, which is primarily located in scholarly environments, transdisciplinary knowledge production entails a fusion of academic and non-academic knowledge, theory and practice, discipline and profession. Architecture (and urbanism), operating as both a discipline and a profession, seems to form a particularly receptive ground for transdisciplinary research. However, this specificity has not yet been developed into a full-fledged, unique mode of knowledge production. In order to dedicate specific attention to transdisciplinary knowledge production, this book aims to explore (new) hybrid modes of inquiry that allow many of architecture’s longstanding schisms to be overcome: such as between theory/history and practice, critical theory and projective design, the adoption of an external viewpoint and a view-from-within (often under the guise of bottom-up vs. top-down). It therefore offers the reader a mix of contributions that elaborate on knowledge production that is situated in the (architectural and urban) profession or practice, and on practice-based approaches in theory.

Trading Between Architecture And Art written by Wouter Davidts and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-08-20 with Architecture categories.

Since the 1960s, art and architecture have experienced a series of radical and reciprocal trades. Just as artists have simulated ?architectural? means like plans and models, built structures and pavilions, or intervened in urban and public spaces, architects have employed ?artistic? strategies in art institutions, exhibitions, and more. Likewise, art galleries and museums have combined both activities, playing with the conditional differences between inside and outside the institutions. This book focuses on specific case studies of these two-way, interdisciplinary transactions. Included are texts and visual essays by Mark Dorrian, Rosemary Willink, Sarah Oppenheimer, and many others.

The World As An Architectural Project written by Hashim Sarkis and has been published by National Geographic Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-03-17 with Architecture categories.

Architects imagine the planet: fifty speculative world-scale projects from Patrick Geddes, Alison and Peter Smithson, Kiyonori Kikutake, Juan Navarro Baldeweg, Luc Deleu, and others. The world's growing vulnerability to planet-sized risks invites action on a global scale. The World as an Architectural Project shows how for more than a century architects have imagined the future of the planet through world-scale projects. With fifty speculative projects by Patrick Geddes, Alison and Peter Smithson, Kiyonori Kikutake, Saverio Muratori, Takis Zenetos, Sergio Bernardes, Juan Navarro Baldeweg, Luc Deleu, and many others, documented in text and images, this ambitious and wide-ranging book is the first compilation of its kind. Interestingly, architects begin to address the world as a project long before the advent of contemporary globalism and its assorted anxieties. The Spanish urban theorist and entrepreneur Arturo Soria y Mata, for example, in 1882 envisions a system that connects the entire planet in a linear urban network. In 1927, Buckminster Fuller's “World Town Plan—4D Tower” proposes to solve global housing problems with mobile structures delivered and installed by a Zeppelin. And Joyce Hsiang and Bimal Mendis visualize the conditions of a worldwide “City of Seven Billion” in a 2015–2019 project. Rather than indulging the cliché of the megalomaniac architect, this volume presents a discipline reflecting on its own responsibilities.
