Indonesia merupakan penghasil buah durian terbesar di dunia. Konsumsi durian masih didominasi oleh pasar dalam negeri. Peluang agribisnis durian yang begitu besar, idealnya harus diikuti oleh upaya untuk meningkatkan produksi dan penanaman varietas unggul dengan menerapkan teknologi budidaya secara benar atau yang bisa disebut dengan Good Agriculture Practices. Pengembangan agribisnis durian di Provinsi Bali memerlukan ketersediaan bibit dari varietas unggul. Maka dari itu, diperlukan ketelitian dalam pemilihan bibit karena kesalahan dalam pemilihan bibit durian akan terlihat setelah tanaman menghasilkan buah yang akan menyebabkan kerugian besar. Bibit yang ideal yaitu bibit yang bersumber dari pohon induk yang secara genetik produktif, unggul, dan dihasilkan melalui penangkaran yang benar. Dalam upaya perbanyakan tanaman, umumnya dilakukan secara vegetatif seperti grafting (sambung pucuk). Upaya ini dilakukan untuk menjaga kemurnian mutu genetik durian. Segala bentuk masukan baik kritik maupun saran sangat penulis harapkan demi perbaikan buku selanjutnya. Penulis menyadari bahwa masih banyak terdapat kekurangan dalam penyusunan buku ini. Penulis kutip dari pepatah “tak ada gading yang tak retak”, begitupun dengan penulis yang tidak luput dari kesalahan. Apabila kelak pembaca menemukan kesalahan pengutipan, mendeskripsikan, tata bahasa, maupun mem-parafrase, penulis memohon maaf atas kesalahan tersebut. Maka dari itu, Penulis mengharapkan banyak masukan guna penyempurnaan pada cetakan berikutnya. Agricultural Involution: The Processes of Ecological Change in Indonesia is one of the most famous of the early works of Clifford Geertz. It principal thesis is that many centuries of intensifying wet-rice cultivation in Indonesia had produced greater social complexity without significant technological or political change, a process Geertz terms "involution". Written for a US-funded project on the local developments and following the modernization theory of Walt Whitman Rostow, Geertz examines in this book the agricultural system in Indonesia and its two dominant forms of agriculture, swidden and sawah. In addition to researching its agricultural systems, the book turns to an examination of their historical development.
