Protection of the environment has nowadays become a major challenge and a condi tion for survival of future human generations and life on Earth in general. Yet it is still far too much of a dream or hope rather than a reality in the policy of our societies. Presently we are experiencing an unprecedented exponential growth of demography combined with a race for profit, resulting in excessive consumption particularly of en ergy, and a serious impact on the world ecosystems. Various types of pollutants and emerging new diseases not only disrupt the normal course of life, but also above this some of the atmospheric pollutants are most likely involved in the changing climate. We fear and literally shiver at the thought that the "changing climate" would ultimately disrupt the fragile thermodynamic equilibrium between the atmosphere and the oceans. Are we insensitive to these facts to the point of pushing our descendants, some genera tions ahead, into a new glacial period after a first period of warming up, at least, in northern Europe, like the one that took place 13 to 14 millennia ago? Surely the planet's nature is not prepared to be dominated by man and will go its way, whether humanity will be alive or dead.

This book, Biodiversity of Mangroves is a maiden endeavour of this, or by any other author, to unveil the hidden and rich treasure of biotal, physiographic, tribal, marine, coastal and other resources bringing under one umbrella- The Mangroves . It also highlights Tiger-Man interaction and rendenvous of innumerable invertebrate and vertebrate fauna, endemic and rare biota ot two premier mangrove sites situated at northern and southern apexes of The Bay of Bengal. The author does not merely layout checklists of plants and animals, birds and fishes, he also brings forth-facts on site-specific species, species association, endemism, biogeographic and other qualities. The most attractive and realistic aspect of Tiger Cult; and Man-Tiger interaction of Sundarbans have been brought to light. For the Bay Islands, indepth facts on several vanishing tribals, rare and endemic biota, problem and issues of Tropical Rain Forest and conservation strategy have been identified. Sundarban s mangrove history remains a sterile subject Sans Tiger-Man interaction and without revelation of Tiger s behavi-oural pattern; Similarly, without the vanishing tribals struggle for existence and stress stricken biotal s survival history the bay Islands remain in dark. In this field the author takes the pride to bring forth very many hidden qualities of these two mangrove forests to light so far not considered by any to discuss under one umbrella. The presentation has been made mostly from the author s own experience and involvement in scientific work, and his findings in both the areas which have also been recorded in books and various research papers since 1970. The readers are sure to have a realistic conception of the resources, problems and conservation strategy at a glance which is a unique presentation of the author. Fighting Women written by Victoria Katherine Burbank and has been published by Univ of California Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-07-26 with Psychology categories.

Fighting is common among contemporary Aboriginal women in Mangrove, Australia. Women fight with men and with other women—often with “the other woman.” Victoria Burbank’s depiction of these women offers a powerful new perspective that can be applied to domestic violence in Western settings. Noting that Aboriginal women not only talk without shame about their angry emotions but also express them in acts of aggression and defense, Burbank emphasizes the positive social and cultural implications of women’s refusal to be victims. She explores questions of hierarchy and the expression of emotions, as well as women’s roles in domestic violence. Human aggression can be experienced and expressed in different ways, she says, and is not necessarily always “wrong.” Fighting Women is relevant to discussions of aggression and gender relations in addition to debates on the victimization of women and children everywhere.
