The transverse momentum and multiplicity of jets produced in top quark events are measured using 20.3 inverse fb of pp collision data at a center-of-mass energy of 8 tev. Jets are selected from top events requiring an opposite-charge $e\mu$ pair and two b-tagged jets in the final state. The data are corrected to obtain the particle-level fiducial cross section for additional jets with rank 1-4, where rank=1 is the leading additional jet. These distributions are used to obtain the extra jet multiplicity as a function of minimum jet pt threshold. The results are compared with several next to leading order Monte Carlo generators. The resulting measurements can be used to tune Monte Carlo QCD modelling and may also reduce associated modelling uncertainties for LHC top quark physics measurements.

The mass of the top quark is measured using a sample of $t\bar{t}$ candidate events with at least six jets in the final state. The sample is selected from data collected with the CMS detector in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV in 2011 and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 3.54 inverse femtobarns. The mass is reconstructed for each event employing a kinematic fit of the jets to a $t\bar{t}$ hypothesis. The top-quark mass is measured to be 173.49 $\pm$ 0.69 (stat.) $\pm$ 1.21 (syst.) GeV. A combination with previously published measurements in other decay modes by CMS yields a mass of 173.54 $\pm$ 0.33 (stat.) $\pm$ 0.96 (syst.) GeV.

The W boson helicity fractions from top quark decays in t-tbar events are measured using data from proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. The data were collected in 2012 with the CMS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.8 inverse-femtobarns. Events are reconstructed with either one muon or one electron, along with four jets in the final state, with two of the jets being identified as originating from b quarks. The measured helicity fractions from both channels are combined, yielding F[0] = 0.681 +/- 0.012 (stat) +/- 0.023 (syst), F[L] = 0.323 +/- 0.008 (stat) +/- 0.014 (syst), and F[R] = -0.004 +/- 0.005 (stat) +/- 0.014 (syst) for the longitudinal, left-, and right-handed components of the helicity, respectively. These measurements of the W boson helicity fractions are the most accurate to date and they agree with the predictions from the standard model.

We present a measurement of the top quark mass (m{sub t}) in p{bar p} collisions at √s = 1.96 TeV using t{bar t} events with two leptons (ee, e? or??) in the final state in 4.3 fb−1 of data collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. We analyze the kinematically underconstrained dilepton events by integrating over the neutrino rapidity distributions. We reduce the dominant systematic uncertainties from jet energy calibration using a correction obtained from t{bar t} → l + jets events. We also correct jets in simulated events to replicate the quark flavor dependence of the jet response in data. In combination with our previous analysis, we measure m{sub t} = 174.0 ± 2.4(stat) ± 1.4(syst) GeV.

Abstract: A technique is presented to measure the efficiency with which c-jets are mistagged as b-jets (mistagging efficiency) using tt ̄ events, where one of the W bosons decays into an electron or muon and a neutrino and the other decays into a quark-antiquark pair. The measurement utilises the relatively large and known W→cs branching ratio, which allows a measurement to be made in an inclusive c-jet sample. The data sample used was collected by the ATLAS detector at s√=13 TeV and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb−1. Events are reconstructed using a kinematic likelihood technique which selects the mapping between jets and tt ̄ decay products that yields the highest likelihood value. The distribution of the b-tagging discriminant for jets from the hadronic W decays in data is compared with that in simulation to extract the mistagging efficiency as a function of jet transverse momentum. The total uncertainties are in the range 3-17%. The measurements generally agree with those in simulation but there are some differences in the region corresponding to the most stringent b-jet tagging requirement

The first measurement of the jet mass m[jet] of top quark jets produced in t t-bar events from pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 8 TeV is reported for the jet with the largest transverse momentum pt in highly boosted hadronic top quark decays. The data sample, collected with the CMS detector, corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 inverse femtobarns. The measurement is performed in the lepton+jets channel in which the products of the semileptonic decay t to bW with W to l nu where l is an electron or muon, are used to select t t-bar events with large Lorentz boosts. The products of the fully hadronic decay t to bW with W to q q'-bar are reconstructed using a single Cambridge-Aachen jet with distance parameter R=1.2, and pt>400 GeV. The t t-bar cross section as a function of m[jet] is unfolded at the particle level and is used to test the modelling of highly boosted top quark production. The peak position of the m[jet] distribution is sensitive to the top quark mass m[t], and the data are used to extract a value of m[t] to assess this sensitivity.

Measurement Of The Ratio B T To Wb B T To Wq In Pp Collisions At Sqrt S written by and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014 with categories.

The ratio of the top-quark branching fractions R=B(t to Wb)/B(t to Wq), where the denominator includes the sum over all down-type quarks (q = b, s, d), is measured in the t t-bar dilepton final state with proton-proton collision data at sqrt(s)=8 TeV from an integrated luminosity of 19.7 inverse femtobarns, collected with the CMS detector. In order to quantify the purity of the signal sample, the cross section is measured by fitting the observed jet multiplicity, thereby constraining the signal and background contributions. By counting the number of b jets per event, an unconstrained value of R=1.014 +/- 0.003 (stat.) +/- 0.032 (syst.) is measured, in good agreement with the standard model prediction. A lower limit R> 0.955 at the 95% confidence level is obtained after requiring R ;=1, and a lower limit on the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element abs(V[tb]) 0.975 is set at 95% confidence level. The result is combined with a previous CMS measurement of the t-channel single-top-quark cross section to determine the top-quark total decay width, Gamma[t]=1.36 +/- 0.02 (stat.) +0.14/-0.11 (syst.) GeV.
