This book — a result of 30 years of quality-related work experience — was written to aid quality technicians and engineers. It provides the quality professional working in virtually any industry a quick, convenient, and comprehensive guide to properly conducting measurement systems analysis (MSA). The intent of this book is to provide background and examples on the application of gage R&R methodology (test method validation) for variable and attribute data, help for those who work with devices that don’t fit the usual approach, and ideas for measurement devices that require innovation to assess their performance under off-line, static conditions. The ultimate objective is to determine how best to improve the control and performance of a process. The reader is assumed to be familiar with basic control charting methodology since assessment of statistical control of the measurement process is important. One may wonder why performing a gage R&R is so important; the simple answers are profit, public health, and safety. Companies that are shipping product that is out of specification can be subjected to expensive litigation, especially in the aviation, pharmaceutical, and medical device industries. This book will be a useful reference when preparing for and taking many of the ASQ quality certification examinations, including the Certified Quality Technician (CQT), Certified Calibration Technician (CCT), Certified Quality Inspector (CQI), Certified Six Sigma Green Belt (CSSGB), Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Six Sigma Black Belt (CSSBB), and Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE).

The goal of this book is to carefully define and derive the statistical relationships relevant to the errors that do and can occur in measurement systems. The emphasis is on test systems employed in manufacturing. However, the statistical techniques presented are general and can be applied to any field of science, engineering, or any field which employs the mathematics of statistics to gather and analyze information. As will be explained throughout this book, knowing the statistics of measurement error for test equipment will allow us to know and improve test accuracy and precision, which in turn, will allow us to greatly improve: Product Quality, Test Productivity, and Product Yields. The center of this work is the "Test Capability Study" this is a spreadsheet based analysis that can quickly be set up and give an estimate of the overall uncertainty of a measurement based on a sampling of test systems or test configurations. The "Test Capability Study" is a streamlined and more efficient form of the "Gage R & R Study." Also covered is the "Propagation of Errors" (POE) analysis to first and second order. The first order POE is commonly treated in many fine books, but the second order POE is rarely treated. For those familiar with first order POE I think you will find it a real treat to study the second order POE as it will help you get a deeper and more accurate understanding of POE. As well as treating measurement errors, second order POE can accurately analyze variation contributions to product distributions as well as other variations in physical systems that can be defined mathematically.

Make Your Destructive Dynamic And Attribute Measurement System Work For You written by William D. Mawby and has been published by Quality Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-06-30 with Mathematics categories.

The motivation for this book comes from the author’s extensive experience with trying to apply the standard measurement systems analysis methods to real-world problems that arise in manufacturing and industry. The methods work well for simple systems that are not dynamic and have only two significant sources of error, but leave a lot to be desired in other circumstances. This shortfall is especially clear in the case of attribute measurement systems analysis in which the standard method is far from adequate. This book provides clear procedures for situations in which the part values change or are destroyed. It also provides procedures that work when the measurements are dynamic and cannot be separated from the process. It extends the simple methods to cases in which the measurement systems have several sources of uncertainty. And it completely overhauls the attribute methodology and enables it for many difficult but practical applications. Each extension of the method is detailed in a chapter complete with realistic examples and end-of-chapter summaries called “Take Home Pay” which clue the reader into the key points that are critical for the attempt to enable bottom line success. The reader who uses these methods will find that they can quickly make significant improvement in their destructive, dynamic, and attribute measurement systems with less effort.

Measuring and managing the performance of a business is one of the most genuine desires of management. Balanced scorecard, the performance prism and activity-based management are the most popular frameworks in this setting. Based on the findings of R.G. Eccles’ acclaimed "Performance Measurement Manifesto (1991)" this book introduces new contexts and themes of application and presents emerging research areas related to business performance measurement and management, e.g. SMEs and sustainability. As a result of the 1st International Summer School Piero Lunghi on "Perspectives of Business Performance Management" this book is written both for students and academics, as well as for practitioners looking for new, yet proven ways to measure and manage business performance.

Given our rapidly changing world, companies are virtually forced to engage in continuous performance monitoring. Though Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) may at times seem to be the real driving force behind social systems, economies and organizations, they can also have far-reaching normative effects, which can modify organizational behavior and influence key decisions – even to the point that organizations themselves tend to become what they measure! Selecting the right performance indicators is hardly a simple undertaking. This book describes in detail the main characteristics of performance measurement systems and summarizes practical methods for defining KPIs, combining theoretical and practical aspects. These descriptions are supported by a wealth of practical examples. The book is intended for all academics, professionals and consultants involved in the analysis and management of KPIs.
