This book was compiled from writings by Hari Prasad Shastri, who devoted his life to the study and propagation of the non-dual teachings and their application through the Yoga of Self-Knowledge, Adhyatma Yoga. After receiving instruction from illumined sages in Northern India and confirming the essential teachings of the Upanishads in his own experience, he travelled in Japan, China and Europe and studied the classics of the world's wisdom traditions. In 1933, in London, he founded Shanti Sadan as a traditional centre of non-duality and the way of Self-Knowledge. Meditation Its Theory and Practice was one of the first books published by Shanti Sadan. It contains a distillation of insights and guidance in meditation as it is understood and practised in the non-dual schools, with special relevance for those who wish to seriously practise meditation without having adopted discipleship under a particular teacher. In the current edition, the original content has been somewhat re-arranged and augmented by clearly structured sets of meditation exercises that may be taken up for regular daily practice.

Sincere spiritual seekers all over the world practice meditation in order to find peace, develop love for God or realize the Self. I have seen in my interactions with most meditators that despite years of practice, their minds still remain restless and they are nowhere near their cherished goals. They do not lack in sincerity and they do put in a lot of effort. They sincerely want to reach their destination, but it so happens that the destination always appears to be as distant as it was when they started the practice years before. What could be the reasons that even the honest meditators are found fumbling and agitated? Why is it that their minds don't listen to them even after years of hard work? Are there any obstacles that all practitioners of meditation face? And what could be the possible solutions to overcome these problems? There are some very subtle changes that can bring about huge improvement in meditation. This book is aimed at understanding the obstacles and finding the right solutions. We will take them up one by one and find out what preparations are needed to overcome them. Sincerely following the suggestions will radically change your spiritual life.

The practice of meditation is growing as we realize the need for self-knowledge and mental balance, but the instructions we find for learning to meditate are incomplete, subjective and do not show how to really reap the benefits of meditation. In The Power of Meditation you will learn everything you need to start meditating, you will not need any other book..You will learn to prepare to meditate, which in my experience, is the main reason for failure to meditate. Preparing not only the body, but the mind (minset and bodyset). You will learn 10 meditation techniques for different needs. 11 breathing exercises (Pranayama). In the chapter Mental Yoga exercises focused on improving the mind and self-knowledge. What they are and how to use mantras. 50 mudras (hand positions) with images and creative meditations and affirmations for each one.And I will not simply throw information at you, you will also have access to meditation programs that guide you on which of the 10 techniques use according to your needs (self-knowledge, personal development, anxiety or emotional cleansing). Itineraries with time, days of the week, in increasing order of development.
