Mit diesem Buch gelang es mir, meinen Gefuhlen und Erinnerungen, die mich durch die schwerste Zeit meines Lebens begleiteten, Ausdruck zu verleihen. Innerhalb von 7 Monaten verlor ich meinen Sohn, meine Arbeit und beinahe mein Leben. Das Verfassen dieser Zeilen half mir sehr, meine Trauer und den Schmerz uber den Tod meines Sohnes zu bewaltigen. Die Fugung nahm ihren Lauf am Freitag, den 10. August 2007. Mein Sohn Christian nahm sich kurz vor seinem 24.Geburtstag das Leben. Wie tief unsere Verbundenheit war und ist, spiegelt sich in meinen sehr emotionalen Gedichten wieder. Ein gnadenvolles Zeichen, das ich nach dem innigsten Gebet meines Lebens am 11.November 2007 empfangen durfte, festigten meinen Glauben so sehr, dass ich ohne Zweifel und Angst dem Tag entgegen gehe, an dem mein irdisches Leben endet. An diesem, meinem Wunder, mochte ich alle Leser teilhaben lassen. Mogen die Zeilen dieses Buches Sie beruhren, Ihnen Mut, Kraft und Hoffnung geben.

Christa Bürger erzählt die Methoden- und Theoriegeschichte der Literaturwissenschaft von den 50er bis in die späten 90er Jahre in einer Engführung von Subjekt und Geschichte aus der Perspektive ihrer eigenen Erfahrung. Dabei geht es ihr um die Bedeutung der Geschlechterdifferenz für die Literatur und Literaturwissenschaft, die wissenschaftspolitischen Auseinandersetzungen der 60er und 70er Jahre und ihren Weg von der Ideologiekritik zu einer essayistischen Schreibpraxis, die einem jenseits der Grenzen der kanonisierten Literatur gleichsam ortlos umherschweifenden Schreiben von Frauen nachspürt. Die Autobiographie verzichtet auf die Illusion eines Erzählkontinuums. Sie setzt sich vielmehr zusammen aus Fragmenten, die bestimmte lebensgeschichtliche und historische Augenblicke (Mai 68; "die rote Bürger"; Reisen), Motive (das Denken des Lebens; "Dilletantism der Weiber") und Gestalten (Adorno; Ulrike Meinhof; Goethe; Bettina/Bettine) beleuchten.

The Rise of National Socialism in the Bavarian Highlands offers a microhistory of the town of Murnau between 1919 and 1933, a period which witnessed the rise of national socialism in Germany. National socialism had its roots in Bavaria, where the Weimar Republic found it difficult to secure popular support amongst the rural population. It was in this region that economic hardship and effective national socialist propaganda furthered the erosion of democracy. Focusing on Murnau, this book examines the political and economic state of the town, as well as the mentality and social composition of its inhabitants. It also looks at the development of tourism in the interwar period, a topic which has received little scholarly attention. Although the study limits itself to one town, the reactions of its inhabitants reflect a common attitude of nostalgia for a seemingly better past and a rejection of the ‘excessive’ demands of modernity that the Weimar Republic exacted on them. This book will appeal to scholars and students of national socialism, as well as those interested in the Weimer Republic, Nazi Germany, microhistory, and the history of tourism.
