Il testo desidera ripercorrere l’affascinante pensiero e sentiero di vita di due grandi uomini e maestri, Dietrich Bonhoeffer e Paul Ricoeur, e ne rilegge il movimento a spirale, paradossalmente lineare, che partendo da una intuizione iniziale progredisce avanzando verso un fine, che è, per entrambi, il fine della vita. Sia Bonhoeffer che Ricoeur hanno conosciuto personalmente la perdita di cose inestimabili, hanno sperimentato le interruzioni del senso nel tempo, la continuità spezzata col passato e col futuro, ma hanno compreso che niente va perduto e hanno, così, teorizzato la forza della memoria. L'autrice Enrichetta Cesarale, nata a Gaeta (LT), ha compiuto il cursus studiorum filosofico-teologico presso la Pontificia Università Gregoriana di Roma, dove ha conseguito la Licenza in Teologia biblica e il Dottorato sotto la guida di Padre Ugo Vanni s.j. È laureata in Filosofia presso l’Università degli studi di Roma3 con tesi dal titolo: «Il giorno: nunc filosofico e scritturistico. La notte: attesa e coraggio del giorno». A day after José Ángel N. first crossed the United States border from Mexico, he was caught and then released onto the streets of Tijuana. Undeterred, N. crawled back through a tunnel to San Diego, where he entered the United States to stay. A detailed examination of the relationship between the discourses and practices of authority and diplomacy in the late medieval and early modern periods, Authority and Diplomacy from Dante to Shakespeare interrogates the persistent duality of the roles of author and ambassador. The volume approaches its subject from a literary-historical perspective, drawing upon late medieval and early modern ideas and discourses of diplomacy and authority, and examining how they are manifested within different forms of writing: drama, poetry, diplomatic correspondence, peace treaties, and household accounts. Contributors focus on major literary figures from different cultures, including Dante, Petrarch, and Tasso from Italy; and from England, Chaucer, Wyatt, Sidney, Spenser, and Shakespeare. In addition, the book moves between and across literary-historical periods, tracing the development of concepts and discourses of authority and diplomacy from the late medieval to the early modern period. Taken together, these essays forge a broader argument for the centrality of diplomacy and diplomatic concepts in the literature and culture of late medieval and early modern England, and for the importance of diplomacy in current studies of English literature before 1603.

“Un mondo di immagini”: un’espressione che è oggi tanto famigliare quanto ingannevole. Ci fa pensare alle immagini come apparenze che ci circondano e ci dominano. Ma, come mostrano i linguaggi artistici, è ben più interessante considerare le immagini non come apparenze, ma come apparizioni che generano mondi sensati e insensati, in una dinamica chiasmatica tra l’inaggirabile vita estetica della forma, che si realizza in un insieme significante o in un’opera, e le corrispondenze immateriali che animano la materia. Per questo, per il loro potere generativo, il lavoro delle immagini ci turba e ci interroga. Interroga i filosofi, che vi riconoscono processi che generano forme: così per Cassirer, Wittgenstein, Benjamin. E diventa matrice di scrittura e di riscrittura di mondi: così per Nabokov, Sebald, Shakespeare, Savinio, e molti altri.
