Buku karya Aksin Wijaya yang ada di tangan pembaca ini merupakan model kegelisahan “baru” akan dominasi nalar Arab dalam teks keagamaan, dalam hal ini al-Qur’an. Dikatakan “kegelisahan baru” mengingat pikiran-pikiran yang dilontarkan turut “mempermasalahkan” mushaf Utsman yang oleh sebagian besar pengkaji al-Qur’an justru tidak lagi dipermasalahkan. Sederet pemikir kontemporer, seperti Amin al-Khuli, Fazlur Rahman, Hassan Hanafi, Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd, Abdul Karim Shoroush, dan Muhammad Syahrur, misalnya, dengan seabrek tawaran metodologis serta pemikiran kritis lainnya tentang al-Qur’an, justru tidak menyinggung mushaf Utsman sebagai korpus yang pantas “digugat”, meski sebenarnya mereka mengakui proses kodifikasi masa Utsman tersebut sejatinya bisa menimbulkan pertanyaan. Poin penting yang didialogkan dalam karya ini sejatinya ada di bab tiga, yakni tentang penafsiran ulang ayat-ayat gender. Hanya saja, penulis banyak mengeluarkan energi pada dua bab sebelumnya, untuk menunjukkan kuatnya nalar dan budaya Arab sebagai “bungkus” dan kemasan wahyu. Hal tersebut sah-sah saja, mengingat di dalam khazanah intelektual Islam “dominasi” nalar Arab memang tidak bisa dipungkiri. Tidak sedikit jumlah karya para pemikir rasional-liberal, baik yang klasik maupun kontemporer, yang memperkokoh “hegemoni” nalar Arab tersebut. Bagaimana pun, kehadiran buku ini amatlah penting guna membuka kreativitas dan kesadaran intelektual akan tugas tafsir yang tidak kenal henti.
