Letztlich geht es um den Paradigmenwechsel von der geordneten institutionalisierten Technikerziehung zur offen angelegten, informellen und situationsbezogenen Techniksozialisation. Der Autor folgert: Wenn Technik allgegenwärtig und weitestgehend unbemerkt den Alltag strukturiert, muss es darum gehen, die die Gesellschaft formenden Eigenschaften von Technik wieder in den Blick zu nehmen und sensibel dafür zu werden, wie unser Leben von technischen Artefakten durchwirkt ist.

With the increasing technology orientation in modern societies Technology Education is gaining more and more importance. One aim of CETE is to support the qualification of young academics in the research field of Technology Education. In this way, CETE contributes to its development work by extending the research results in Technology Education as well as by supporting young academics. Inhaltsangabe:Einleitung: Am Anfang dieser Darstellung steht eine ebenso schwierige wie elementare Frage: Wie war es um den Alltag der Mönche in einem frühmittelalterlichen Kloster bestellt? Der Alltag in einem mittelalterlichen Kloster übt auf uns noch immer den Reiz des Geheimnisvollen und Unbekannten aus, zumal die Bewohner dort nach eigenen Regeln und Richtlinien lebten, zu denen viele Zeitgenossen keinen Zugang hatten. Zeugnisse dieser Zeit sind die Chroniken, Urkunden, Pläne und Bauwerke, die bis heute noch überliefert und erkennbar sind. Diese bedeutenden Vermächtnisse der klösterlichen Kultur geben uns einen Hauch von der Vergangenheit wieder und rufen gleichzeitig unzählige Fragen hervor. Wie haben wir uns den alltäglichen Betrieb um die Klosterkirche im frühen Mittelalter vorzustellen? Traten hier doch die Mönche ebenso wie die Pilger gemeinsam in Erscheinung. Welcher Anblick bietet sich dem Besucher, der ein Kloster erwartungsvoll betritt? Wie leben die Bewohner dort? Wie meistern sie den Alltag? Wer oder welche Gruppen lebten und arbeiteten im Kloster? Welchen Bezug hatte die Welt außerhalb des Klosters zu ihnen und sie zu ihr? Das sind die grundlegenden Fragen, die uns hier interessieren und die nun diese Untersuchung zu beantworten versucht. Grundlage dieser Arbeit ist der Klosterplan von St. Gallen, der eine herausragende Quelle darstellt, um Antworten auf derartige Fragen zu suchen. Mein Untersuchungsansatz geht nicht allein von Regel- und Brauchtexten aus, und es geht auch nicht nur um die Auswertung von Urbaren und Urkunden, vielmehr wird hier in erster Linie anhand des St. Galler Klosterplans der Bauplan eines Großklosters studiert, und es soll versucht werden, diesen mit Leben zu erfüllen. Diese Studie möchte einen Beitrag zur Alltags-, Kultur- und damit zu einem ganz speziellen Aspekt der Kirchengeschichte leisten. Jeder Raum und jeder Wirkungsbereich in einem frühmittelalterlichen Großkloster, alle seine Bewohner im Zusammenhang mit ihrem persönlichen Tätigkeitsfeld bilden das Objekt der Darstellung. Im Fokus der Untersuchung findet sich demnach der Mönch und sein Wirkungskreis, dies bedeutet, es geht um die unmittelbare Umwelt der Mönche, die Lage sowie den Aufbau des Klosters und um die internen und externen Verflechtungen eines Großklosters.
