This book critically explores the use of nine recognized methodologies for the mediation of professional learning in the context of teacher education: The story, the visual text, the case, the video, the simulation, the portfolio, lesson study, action research, and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Drawing on theories of mediation and professional learning, the book establishes connections between theoretical, empirical and practical-based aspects of each of these methodologies. It consolidates a body of knowledge that offers a holistic portrayal of these methodologies in terms of their purposes (what for), processes (how), and outcomes (what), both distinctively and inclusively. Each chapter offers four perspectives on each methodology (1) theoretical groundings of the genre (2) research-based evidence on methodologies-as-pedagogies for mediating teacher learning (3) mediation tasks for teacher education as reported in studies and (4) a synthesis of recurrent themes identified from selected books and articles, including a comprehensive list of publications organized by decades. The last chapter presents an integrative framework that conceptualizes connections and weak links across the different methodologies of mediation.

Drawing from the discourse of practice-oriented teacher education, this book investigates the state of pre-service teachers’ practical knowledge in mainland China, providing insights into the reform of initial teacher education programmes for teacher educators. Conducting empirical studies at a university in Beijing, involving 400 pre-service teachers, the author investigates factors influencing pre-service teachers’ practical knowledge. Five innovative methodologies, namely concept mapping, visual metaphors, video analysis, epistemic network analysis, and formative interventions are employed to make pre-service teachers’ practical knowledge visible, helping to increase our theoretical understanding of practical knowledge and proposing practical guidelines for the reorganisation of initial teacher education. While the study is grounded in mainland China, the methodological thinking and theoretical discussions can inspire international scholars and teacher educators, and therefore contribute to the global reform of teacher education.

How Conflict Resolution Evolves Over 4 Stages Total War To Champion Combat To Symbolic Combat To Mediation written by David Hoicka and has been published by Singapore Mediation Solutions this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on with Business & Economics categories.

"How Conflict Resolution Evolves Over 4 Stages: Total War, to Champion Combat, to Symbolic Combat, to Mediation" is a landmark work that challenges our understanding of human conflict and offers a compelling vision for a more peaceful future. Drawing on a remarkable range of historical examples, cutting-edge neuroscience, and years of practical mediation experience, author David Hoicka, one of the Principal Mediators in neutral Singapore, traces the development of conflict resolution practices through four key stages: total war, champion combat, symbolic competition, and mediation. Hoicka argues that this evolution mirrors the neurological development of the human brain, from the reactive amygdala to the early pre-frontal cortex, through greater cognitive processing, and ultimately to the full engagement of the neocortex. By exploring this parallel progression, Hoicka offers profound insights into both the nature of the conflicts we face today and the immense potential we possess to resolve them. With vivid storytelling and incisive analysis, Hoicka brings to life the brutal reality of total war, the ritualized violence of champion combat, the abstracted battles of symbolic competition, and the collaborative problem-solving of mediation. He examines the strengths and limitations of each approach, the factors that drove evolutionary change, and the practical lessons we can draw from this history. But this is not just a book about the past. It is a powerful call to action for our time. In an era of global crises and existential threats, Hoicka argues that we face a stark choice: Will we address 21st-century challenges with stone-age responses, or can we harness our most evolved capacities for empathy, creativity, and collaboration? The answer, he suggests, lies in the transformative potential of mediation. By fostering dialogue, mutual understanding, and joint problem-solving, mediation offers a toolkit for resolving even the most intractable conflicts. And by recognizing our own evolutionary journey, we can approach contemporary challenges with renewed confidence in our capacity for positive change. Whether you are a diplomat seeking to broker international agreements, a CEO navigating complex stakeholder relationships, or a community leader working to bridge social divides, this book offers essential insights and practical guidance. It challenges us to question our assumptions about conflict, to recognize our shared humanity, and to embrace our potential for continued growth and transformation. At a time when the destructive potential of our conflicts threatens both human welfare and planetary health, the message of this book is both sobering and hopeful. By tracing the evolution from total war to mediation, Hoicka offers not just a compelling historical narrative but a vision of a brighter future — one in which we transcend our most primitive impulses and work together to build a world of greater peace, justice, and shared prosperity.

Transdisciplinary Professional Learning And Practice written by Paul Gibbs and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-01-06 with Education categories.

This book presents thinking about and through transdisciplinary and professional development as an educative process. Rather than focusing on the delineation of the approaches offered, an analysis of these contributions points to commonality in those problems that benefit from a transdisciplinary perspective. The core elements of transdisciplinarity can lead to what might be called metanoia - another way of knowing; a knowing which is ‘beyond that which is creative and transformative. This poses challenges for the practice of all professionals and is the core issue that this book addresses. The book brings together the constituting views of transdisciplinarity, or metanoia, and focus them on current professional practice. The book is structured in two parts and five sections. The first part deals with key issues in Transdisciplinarity; its actuality and how it creates knowledge. Section 1 has three original papers which look at Transdisciplinarity from a different lens. Especially, the Islamic voice has not been heard in this context before. Section 2 considers the knowledge aspect of Transdisciplinarity and how this might be confronted with existing disciplinary knowledge. Part 2 of the book is directly focused on professionals and their education. The third section considers research pedagogy and graduate education for the professional. This is followed in section 4 which offers a discussion on team work. In the final section six chapters present the transdisciplinary practitioner in different contexts.

Each contribution provides an overview of the historical background to a given educational setting.
