Young Citizens And New Media written by Peter Dahlgren and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-10-11 with Political Science categories.

This book integrates four distinct topics: young people, citizenship, new media, and learning processes. When taken together, these four topics merge to define an arena of social and research attention that has become compelling in recent years. The general international concern expressed of declining democratic engagement and the role of citizenship today becomes all the more acute when it turns to younger people. At the same time, there is growing attention being paid to the potential of new media – especially internet and mobile telephony – to play a role in facilitating newer forms of political participation. It is clear that many of the present manifestations of ‘new politics’ in the extra parliamentarian domain, not only make sophisticated use of such media, but are indeed highly dependent on them. With an impressive array of contributors, this book will appeal to those interested in a number of spheres, including media and cultural studies, political science, pedagogy, and sociology.

The Eu After Lisbon written by Lucia Serena Rossi and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-08-23 with Law categories.

The book contains a collection of high-quality academic and expert contributions dealing with the central question of whether the Lisbon Treaty needs further revision. Due to the difficulties European Union actors have encountered in implementing the Lisbon Treaty’s reform and the inadequacies of the current legal framework brought to light by post-Lisbon practice, the volume focuses on possible innovations and functional approaches to improve the Union’s response to the challenges confronting it. In doing so, the volume first takes a horizontal approach to the Treaty’ revision and considers some constitutional features showing the interaction between the EU and its Member States (namely, the parameters of constitutional developments, the allocation of competences, the principles of solidarity and loyal cooperation). Then, the focus shifts to the question of fundamental rights within the EU’s constitutional framework, one of the most relevant innovations of the Lisbon Treaty being the incorporation of the Charter of Fundamental Rights into the Union’s primary law. The last part of the volume is devoted to another domain significantly reshaped by the Lisbon reform, namely, the Union’s external dimension. ECJ Advocate General Paolo Mengozzi’s conclusions highlight the common themes emerging from the various contributions, stressing the need for a more general supranational approach to the political crisis the Union is going through. The content of this book will be of great value to academics, students, judges, practitioners and all others interested in the legal discourse on the progressive development of the European Union legal order.

Ernesto Macaro brings together a wealth of research on the rapidly expanding phenomenon of English Medium Instruction. Against a backdrop of theory, policy documents, and examples of practice, he weaves together research in both secondary and tertiary education, with a particular focus on the key stakeholders involved in EMI: the teachers and the students. Whilst acknowledging that the momentum of EMI is unlikely to be diminished, and identifying its potential benefits, the author raises questions about the ways it has been introduced and developed, and explores how we can arrive at a true cost–benefit analysis of its future impact. “This state-of-the-art monograph presents a wide-ranging, multi-perspectival yet coherent overview of research, policy, and practice of English Medium Instruction around the globe. It gives a thorough, in-depth, and thought-provoking treatment of an educational phenomenon that is spreading on an unprecedented scale.” Guangwei Hu, National Institute of Education, Singapore Additional online resources are available at www.oup.com/elt/teacher/emi Ernesto Macaro is Professor of Applied Linguistics at the University of Oxford and is the founding Director of the Centre for Research and Development on English Medium Instruction at the university. Non Persons The Exclusion Of Migrants In A Global Society written by Alessandro Dal Lago and has been published by Ipoc Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009 with Social Science categories.

While continually broadcasting the deaths of "illegal immigrants" who have drowned at sea, the majority of mass media incessantly feeds the panic over the "invasion" of Italy by poor immigrants from the Third World. This study is not merely an examination of the familiar limitations of the media, but an investigation of the comprehensive attitude in Italian society of rejecting foreigners who have been transformed into public enemies through a vicious cycle of panic and exclusion. Political dialogue has not proven very aware of the problem of acknowledging the civil rights of the new migrants. The recent cultural rediscovery of the "Italian nation" and the "Italian homeland" - that communal sentiment on which national belonging is based - is not separate from these recent disturbing developments. Not only does this appeal to the "Italian nation" prove weak, but it corresponds to a process of inferiorization of other societies: poorer nations, the underdeveloped regions of Italy itself, and the less wealthy areas in dominant regions. The political left and right both display this disturbing mentality. In this extensively documented, polemical book, Alessandro Dal Lago clearly takes a stand regarding the most profound impulses in Italian society. This study reveals that what is involved in the cultural discussion on migration are the most fundamental parameters and values upon which our democracy rests.
