In the 21st century it's unacceptable for students not to make progress at a reasonable rate when instructors and students could benefit from what science has uncovered about learning. Modernizing Approaches to Learning discusses research related to the brain as the gateway to learning. When taking a brain-compatible approach to learning, we can learn faster and retain information and skills longer. The author discusses findings from neuroscience, cognitive science, physiological and psychological research about the brain and learning. He offers practical, modern ways to move from damaging educational approaches toward emotionally safe, self-discovery and self-reliant approaches. Approaches that are geared to help are not as valuable as those geared for self-help. Modernized approaches join the art of teaching with the science of learning where research demonstrates that we learn naturally through trial and error adjustments. To educate, means "to lead out from." The task is to lead learning out of student's minds that are filled with memories of wanted and unwanted outcomes, not to impose it. Many learning approaches stop too early and do not utilize brain-compatible learning approaches that encourage students to use their past experiences and unconscious minds. How words are used tops the list of elements that create learning conducive environments. Learners subjected to criticism, or suggestion that they were unsuccessful, do not respond as well as those who receive positive encouragement to experiment further. Another insight in this book that merits serious attention is that approaches to learning that attempt to fix unwanted outcomes are not as useful as approaches that enhance a student's learning potential. The author suggests a get-it-right approach (trying to get to a performance level by following someone else's path to a solution) should be avoided. Instead, utilize a learn-and-develop approach - to arrive at a performance or solution based on personal trial and error adjustments and recognize that a personal target or solution was met. In today's world, a learn-and-develop approach is 21st century and a teaching-to-fix approach is 20th century.

This special issue of Youth Voice Journal examines recent scholarship tackling core aspects of elevating modern education and empowering young learners and brings together empirical findings across critical facets of education needing attention among today’s shifting realities. The studies contained in this issue provide well-timed data and recommendations to guide policies and teaching methods in line with 21st-century realities. The authors employ focused empirical research across contexts – from preschool to higher education – combined with analysis of past techniques. Findings shed light on improvements ranging from teacher professional development and student evaluation to virtual learning models and nurturing non-cognitive skills. Across diverse methodologies and populations, common threads emerge around building adaptable, supportive educational environments. The studies analyze challenges and opportunities emerging from evolving technologies, social contexts, and educational paradigms. While wide-ranging, the research collectively highlights changes needing proactive responses to better serve youth development. Additional scholarship building on these findings can further inform evidence-based policies and teaching methods. Guest Editor: Liudmyla H. Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) is an innovative approach referring to educational settings where a language different from the learners’ mother tongue is used as a medium of instruction. This other language is found to be used from kindergarten to the tertiary level, and the extent of its use may range from occasional foreign language texts in individual subjects to covering the whole curriculum. The changes in the technological, economic and social realities of the modern world have led, and still lead, to more frequent contact between people of different linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Globalisation has made the world interconnected; the world is rapidly becoming a mixed global village where the role of languages is extremely important. In such an integrated world, integrated learning is viewed as a modern form of educational delivery. CLIL represents an increasingly popular approach to language teaching and learning not only in Europe, but also in other countries such as Japan, Malaysia, China, and the United Arab Emirates. Even though CLIL is not of a uniform nature and varies across the world, one of the main arguments for its introduction is that it creates conditions for naturalistic language learning. This book represents selected presentations given at the Ustroń CLIL 2013 conference, which brought together academicians, researchers, teachers and educational authorities from all over the world, and provided them with the opportunity to exchange an interdisciplinary dialogue on CLIL methodologies, as well as the purely practical consequences of implementing such pedagogies in institutional educational practices at the primary, secondary or tertiary level. As such, collection embraces original contributions across a range of areas of CLIL.

Learning has been fundamental to the growth and evolution of humanity and civilization. The same concepts of learning, applied to the tasks that machines can perform, are having a similar effect now. Machine learning is evolving computation and its applications like never before. It is now widely recognized that machine learning is playing a similar role to electricity in the late 19th and early 20th centuries in modernizing the world. From simple high school science projects to large-scale radio astronomy, machine learning has revolutionized it all—however, a few of the applications clearly stand out as transforming the world and opening up a new era. Machine Learning for Societal Improvement, Modernization, and Progress showcases the path-breaking applications of machine learning that are leading to the next generation of computing and living standards. The focus of the book is machine learning and its application to specific domains, which is resulting in substantial civilizational progress. Covering topics such as lifespan prediction, smart transportation networks, and socio-economic data, this premier reference source is a dynamic resource for data scientists, industry leaders, practitioners, students and faculty of higher education, sociologists, researchers, and academicians.

Modernizing Learning: Building the Future Learning Ecosystem is an implementation blueprint for connecting learning experiences across time and space. This co-created plan represents an advancement of how and where learning will occur in the future. Extensive learning and technological research has been conducted across the myriad disciplines and communities needed to develop this holistic maturation of the learning continuum. These advancements have created the opportunity for formal and informal learning experiences to be accessible anywhere, anytime, and to be personalized to individual needs. However, for full implementation and maximal benefits for learners of all ages and within all communities to be achieved, it is necessary to centralize and coordinate the required connections across technology, learning science, and the greater supporting structures. Accordingly, the ADL Initiative has taken the lead in this coordination process, connecting Government, Military, Academia, Industry, and K-12 teachers, instructors, technologists, researchers, and implementers to create and execute a coordinated transition process. Input was included from stakeholders, communities, and supporting entities which will be involved in this advancement of the life-long learning ecosystem.

Strategic Learning written by Robert K. Kamei and has been published by World Scientific Publishing Company this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021 with Metacognition categories.

Most "how to learn" books focus only on study techniques. However, knowing these study techniques doesn't guarantee they will be successfully implemented. Based on Professor Kamei's popular undergraduate course at the National University of Singapore, the author shares his unique perspective as an educator and physician to provide a strategic approach to learning that will benefit all students looking to optimize their learning. His extensive experience with helping students with their studies has identified a wide variety of reasons why they were not learning properly. What throws many learners off is that they hold certain myths that result in poor study habits. Learners who understand the truth behind these myths can use this knowledge to better plan their study and have an advantage over others that don't. Furthermore, modifying your study methods won't make much difference if you are too sleepy to learn or lack the motivation and self-discipline to pick up a book. These foundational aspects of learning also need to be solidly in place. This book takes learners through the author's holistic method to help students learn better and meet whatever learning challenges they face. Learners of all ages who wish to optimize their learning will benefit from this book, as well as educators seeking an approach to help their students learn better.

Children and youth, regardless of their ethnic backgrounds, are experiencing lifestyle choices their parents never imagined and contributing to the transformation of ideals, traditions, education and adult-child power dynamics. As a result of the advances in technology and media as well as the effects of globalization, the transmission of social and cultural practices from parents to children is changing. Based on a number of qualitative studies, this book offers insights into the lives of children and youth in Britain, Japan, Spain, Israel/Palestine, and Pakistan. Attention is focused on the child's perspective within the social-power dynamics involved in adult-child relations, which reveals the dilemmas of policy, planning and parenting in a changing world.
