The Montessori Method represents an explicit idealism and turn away from war and violence toward peace and reconstruction. It is built on coherent visions of how to improve human society by helping children realize their full potential as intelligent, creative, whole persons. In the Montessori Method, children are viewed as active authors of their own development, strongly influenced by natural, dynamic, self-righting forces within themselves, opening the way toward growth and learning. Teachers depend for their work with children on carefully prepared, aesthetically pleasing environments that serve as a pedagogical tool and provide strong messages about the curriculum and about respect for children. Partnering with parents is highly valued in the Montessori Method, and children are evaluated by means other than traditional tests and grades.

Mission Of The University written by Jose Ortega y Gasset and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-09-25 with Social Science categories.

In 1930, the great Spanish philosopher Jos Ortega y Gasset set forth a program for reforming the modern Spanish university. Aware that the missions of the university are many and often competing, Ortega built his program around a conception of a "general culture" that knows no national boundaries or time limits and could fit into any national system of higher education. His ideas are especially pertinent to contemporary debate in America over curriculum development and the purpose of education. In this volume Ortega sought to answer two essential questions: what is the knowledge most worth knowing by all students and what is the function of the university in a modern democracy? Basing his answers on his own deep personal culture and an extensive knowledge of the various European university systems, Ortega defined four primary missions: the teaching of the learned professions, the fostering of scientific research, training for political leadership, and finally the creation of cultured persons with the ability to make intellectual interpretations of the world. Ortega's understanding of "general culture" is set out in great detail here. He meant an active engagement in ideas and issues that were both historical and contemporary. His concern is with the classical problems of justice, the good society, who should rule, and the responsibilities of citizenship. This edition first published in 1998. Routledge is an imprint of Taylor & Francis, an informa company.

THE Protagoras, like several of the Dialogues of Plato, is put into the mouth of Socrates, who describes a conversation which had taken place between himself and the great Sophist at the house of Callias—’the man who had spent more upon the Sophists than all the rest of the world’ (Apol. 20 A), and in which the learned Hippias and the grammarian Prodicus had also shared, as well as Alcibiades and Critias, both of whom said a few words—in the presence of a distinguished company consisting of disciples of Protagoras and of leading Athenians belonging to the Socratic circle. The dialogue commences with a request on the part of Hippocrates that Socrates would introduce him to the celebrated teacher. He has come before the dawn had risen—so fervid is his zeal. Socrates moderates his excitement and advises him to find out ‘what Protagoras will make of him,’ before he becomes his pupil. Aeterna Press

A book which examines the need for social scientists to include into their research the feelings and emotions of both themselves and their respondents. Qualitative researchers have, in part, insulated their readers from raw emotion, or failed to document the whole of the facts surrounding collection of sensitive data. By taking a professional stance the observer can sometimes miss the reality of what they are observing. People's problems, including the researchers' own subjective biases and feelings, need to be included in all qualitative research. The book argues that the professional stance frequently adopted by observers and observed unconsciously insulates the observer and hence the reader from the true picture. This book examines the worries, fears, feelings and restrictions placed on researchers when observing, recording and interviewing people about their private and sensitive inner feelings and the problems which arise when respondents being studied are in the grip of powerful emotions.

This exceptionally beautiful essay by the Colombian Nobel Prize-winning author is one of his most lucid and beautiful literary expressions. Originally written as a prologue to a "state of the nation" analysis recently published by a group of eminent Colombian thinkers, it drafts a virtual navigation chart for the future of Colombia, affirming the country's vast human potential and emphasizing the powers of education and national spirit. Four-color photographs enliven this work.
