Merkel cell carcinoma is an uncommon but not rare aggressive cutaneous malignancy. It has many similarities to melanoma, particularly in the need for aggressive multidisciplinary treatment, but far less is known about this disease by most practicing physicians. This book summarizes all of the existing knowledge about Merkel cell carcinoma and provides a much-needed perspective on future opportunities for diagnostic and therapeutic advances. It offers practical ?how to? advice on diagnosis, treatment and follow-up, and also insight into how to establish a multidisciplinary Merkel cell carcinoma clinic. In addition, it will serve as a unique resource for trainees (medical students, residents and fellows) as well as for Merkel cell carcinoma patients and their advocates and caregivers. There is currently no such textbook, even an outdated one, covering this topic.

The purpose of this book is to outline the topics that are critical in the dermatological approach to patients with cancer. This purpose will be accomplished by discussing the value of a multidisciplinary approach, and case examples will be used, including some from the Hospital Sírio-Libanês, a pioneering institution in the treatment of cancer. In all, the book will present and discuss the best global evidence for the dermatologic care of patients with cancer, skin cancer, and solid organ- and bone-marrow-transplanted patients. The clinical, surgical, pathologic, imaging, radiotherapy, oncology and palliative care aspects of the dermatologic care of cancer patients will be covered. The book will also discuss subjects such as genetics, biology, evidence-based medicine, and new diagnostic methods and tools such as dermoscopy and confocal microscopy. Chapters will be based on the following key areas: educating clinicians on how to prevent skin cancer in patients, screening and counseling, diagnosis and treatment of pigmented lesions, melanoma and nonmelanoma skin cancer, cutaneous lymphomas, sarcomas, leukemic and lymphomatous infiltrations, cutaneous metastases, cutaneous paraneoplasic manifestations and cutaneous adverse reactions to chemotherapy and radiation treatment. Multidisciplinary Approach To Neurofibromatosis Type 1 written by Gianluca Tadini and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-06-02 with Medical categories.

This volume offers an update of the clinical signs, diagnostic criteria (including molecular diagnosis) and targeted therapies for a particular type of genodermatosis, providing a handy and unique tool for early diagnosis. In recent years, our understanding of genodermatosis and neurocutaneous syndromes has increased, but although Type 1 Neurofibromatosis (NF1) is the most common neuroectodermal disorder and involves a large number of patients and medical disciplines, this syndrome remains underestimated, often misdiagnosed thus leading to inaccurate treatment. The literature on the molecular and pathogenetic aspects is ample, but current clinical approaches, classification, diagnostic criteria and treatment protocols are outdated, creating difficulties in early diagnosis and treatment. As such, a chapter is devoted renewing current diagnostic criteria; it includes clinical and molecular data, to offer a sound, updated discussion basis for a consensus conference. NF1 is a “time-dependent” disorder, meaning that the onset of clinical signs are closely linked to patient age and the book discusses this particularly neglected aspect extensively, as well as the latest molecular diagnosis techniques, which are highly sensitive have not been included in the diagnostic criteria. It also explains the role of the RAS-MAPK pathway and genotype-phenotype correlations. In addition it explores new concepts concerning the pathogenesis of neurofibromas and other hamarthomas and their relevance for a modern therapeutical approach with targeted molecular drugs, as well as newly discovered aspects of NF1 in all internal organs, together with their diagnostic counterparts. A chapter on mosaic neurofibromatosis is also included. There is a particular focus on differential diagnosis (i.e. other diseases with café-au-lait macules), and the recently described Legius syndrome will be presented directly by Prof Eric Legius. All chapters are easy-to-understand, up-to-date, comprehensive and concise tools and are intended for a wide range of professionals involved with genetic disorders of the skin and neurocutaneous diseases: dermatologists, pediatricians, neurologists, oncologists and general practitioners.

For the first time, a true multidisciplinary approach to cutaneous malignancy of the head and neck is presented, as international experts in head and neck surgical oncology, dermatology, Mohs micrographic surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, radiation oncology, and medical oncology present state-of-the-art techniques and promising horizons in the treatment of cutaneous malignancy of the head and neck. Whether in primary care or a specialty practice, this text should prove invaluable to any practitioner who treats patients with skin cancer of the head and neck. This is the only textbook on this subject that comprehensively addresses patient management - from diagnosis, treatment (in all forms, including chemotherapy and radiation), and reconstruction. This book makes preparation for actual patient care or presentations simpler and easier; currently, someone wanting to study this field would have to get articles, a head and neck surgery text, and a facial plastic/reconstruction text to gather all the information that is presented here. This book is suitable for ENT surgeons, plastic surgeons, general surgical oncologists, dermatologists, and even radiation/medical oncologists in endemic areas who treat patients with aggressive cutaneous malignancies. Each chapter has information that will be valuable to both seasoned practitioners and residents in training.
