In 1939, a young woman of 18 yrs. began to launch out onto a journey of Faith to study to become a Missionary to Africa. That plan was put aside to do her mother's bidding, and enter a marriage which ended in disaster. Her next marriage was in failure, also, and the downward spiral was well in motion. With four children to care for, this abandoned woman of God became a statistic. A liaison was formed with a kindly Preacher man, who seemed to really care. A child was conceived, and in panic, this Home Missionary Woman tried to undo what had been done. When that did not work, there was a hasty trip to fi nd the abusive, alcoholic husband, and reconciliation Within months there was a baby girl born, who became deeply loved by this precious mother, so scarred by the grievous wounds of life. Shortly thereafter, another divorce occurred, and the journey of fatherlessness had begun for this child. These letters were written from the Compassionate Heart of a Loving Heavenly Father, to this little girl of His, who didn't know she was deeply loved by Him, and who suffered excruciating emotional pain, lonliness and rejection, until the Bright Son of her Father's Love opened her broken heart and life to all the amazing possibilities of a Living Savior's Plan of Redemption at work in her life. Captain Ahab Had A Wife written by Lisa Norling and has been published by UNC Press Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-02-01 with History categories.

During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the whaling industry in New England sent hundreds of ships and thousands of men to distant seas on voyages lasting up to five years. In Captain Ahab Had a Wife, Lisa Norling taps a rich vein of sources--including women's and men's letters and diaries, shipowners' records, Quaker meeting minutes and other church records, newspapers and magazines, censuses, and city directories--to reconstruct the lives of the "Cape Horn widows" left behind onshore. Norling begins with the emergence of colonial whalefishery on the island of Nantucket and then follows the industry to mainland New Bedford in the nineteenth century, tracking the parallel shift from a patriarchal world to a more ambiguous Victorian culture of domesticity. Through the sea-wives' compelling and often poignant stories, Norling exposes the painful discrepancies between gender ideals and the reality of maritime life and documents the power of gender to shape both economic development and individual experience.

The diary became a many-layered and strikingly animated work of a gifted writer, by turns charming, repellent, shocking, cruel, and comical. But the diary is also an uninhibited history of his times, of his eccentricities and fantasies, of his bizarre marriage arrangements and sexual adventures. Inman's explorations of his own troubled nature made him excessively curious about the secret lives of others.
