The transition from elementary to middle school can be an exciting as well as scary time for young adolescents. The stress of this transition can be decreased by incorporating transition programs that address student needs and concerns. This qualitative research study was designed to gain an overall sense of fourth grade in order to better understand the experience that elementary students have prior to transitioning to middle school. In this qualitative study information was gathered through fourth grade teacher interviews, observations of fourth grade classrooms, as well as the collection of artifacts from fourth grade. From the information collected three areas were identified as being characteristic of fourth grade: structure, math, and behavior. Appendix A contains: (1) ISB Form; Informed Consent Form, and Interview Questions. Appendix B contains: (1) Interview Transcripts; (2) Interview Field Notes; (3) Observation Field Notes; and (4) List of Artifacts.

This book is a collection of my thoughts, philosophies, poems, and experiences that I have gone through as Ive grown as a man and an educator. Anyone who has been to the intersection of personal growth and career can relate to what I am trying to say in this book. Here are some examples of my experience: I lost something too, my home and my family, the birthplace of my passion and the shelter of my professional soul. p 46 Ive never had anyone in my life need me the way he needed me. When he needed me the most, I couldnt help him! p 41 In my opinion, behavioral management is often downplayed and over-simplified. Often reduced to classroom rules and consequences, I believe that it is so much more. Used appropriately, behavioral management is the mechanism that will allow for creative and unique teaching opportunities . . . p 37 Every time a mind is opened, my soul is brought closer to God because of the simplicity and appreciation that children bring into our grown-up world, each and every time we interact with them. p 61

Free School Teaching written by Kristan Accles Morrison and has been published by State University of New York Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-02-01 with Education categories.

Free School Teaching is the personal and professional journey of one teacher within the American educational system. Faced with mounting frustrations in her own traditional, middle school classroom and having little success in resolving them, Kristan Accles Morrison decided to seek out answers, first by immersing herself in the academic literature of critical education theory and then by turning to the field. While the literature on progressive education gave her hope that things could be different and better for students locked into America's traditional education system, she wanted to find a firsthand example of how these ideas played out in practice. Morrison found a radical "free school" in Albany, New York, that embodied the ideas found in the literature, and over a period of three months she observed and documented differences between alternative and traditional schools. In trying to reconcile the gap between those systems, Morrison details the lessons she learned about teachers, students, curriculum, and the entire conception of why we educate our children.
