"The share auto I squeeze into next seems unusually vulnerable after a night in the truck - too compact, too low down. Perhaps, these are the usual side effects of prolonged riding with the king of the road, I think to myself. But it is only when I fill in ‘truck’ as my mode of transportation in the hotel ledger at Udaipur does the utter ludicrousness of my endeavour truly hit home" Think truck drivers, and movie scenes of them drunkenly crushing inconvenient people to their gravelly deaths come to mind. But what are their lives on the road actually like? In Truck De India!, journalist Rajat Ubhaykar embarks on a 10,000 km-long, 100% unplanned trip, hitchhiking with truckers all across India. On the way, he makes unexpected friendships; listens to highway ghost stories; discovers the near-fatal consequences of overloading trucks; documents the fascinating tradition of truck art in Punjab; travels alongside nomadic shepherds in Kashmir; encounters endemic corruption repeatedly; survives NH39, the insurgent-ridden highway through Nagaland and Manipur; and is unfailingly greeted by the unconditional kindness of perfect strangers. Imbued with humour, empathy, and a keen sense of history, Truck De India! is a travelogue like no other you've read. It is the story of India, and Indians, on the road.

Tata Higher Secondary School, Jamshedpur. He studied Geology in Tata College, Chaibasa, courtesy Prof. P.S. Gupta and Nandu Babu which was another windfall. He received his Post Graduate degree in Geology obtaining gold medal from Ranchi University in 1972. He served Tata Steel in the Geological Department for 27 years and his long cherished desire was fulfilled. In this long journey, he was helped by many. Life is like a roller-coaster, like an ocean, which has crests and troughs. He was no exception. He worked in Joda, West Bokaro, Jamadoba and Noamundi in the wing of exploration, quality control and beneficiation. In this book, he describes his arduous journey—a mixture of failures and success. Under his supervision, many difficult boreholes were conducted in Jharia Group both from surface and underground. The databank of resources was refreshed. He contributed in the construction of three washeries at West Bokaro and Bhelatand respectively; which are lifeline of Tata Steel today. He interacted closely with doyens of Tata Steel like Dr. Jamshed J. Irani, Mr. Russi Mody, Y.P. Dhawan, which has been narrated in vivid details. He had brief meeting with Mr. J.R.D. Tata and Mr. Ratan Tata also. He is thankful to his mentors Mr C.D. Singh, Principal, R.D. Tata Higher Secondary School, Harihar Singh, Teacher, and Mr. R.S. Subramanian, Superintendent of the Geological Department, who guided him in the ladder of success and in framing the policy of his life. The book is written in memory of his close associate Pesi Tarapore, who left for heavenly abode little early. He also thanked other friends through this book, who shared the experience with him.

Criminal Capital written by Andrew Sanchez and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-04-14 with Political Science categories.

Criminal Capital explores the relationship between neoliberalism, criminality and the reshaping of class in modern India. It discusses how the political vocabularies of urban industrial workers reflect the processes by which power is distributed across the region. Based upon field research among a ‘casualised’ workforce in the industrial city of Jamshedpur, the book examines the links between the decline of employment security, and criminality in trade unions, corporations and the state. The volume compares popular discourses of corruption against the ethnography of local labour politics, business enterprise and debt collection, and shows how corruption and criminality consolidate class power in industrial environments. Using an interdisciplinary ethnographic approach, this study interrogates the relationship between capitalism, corruption, violence and labour politics in contemporary Indian society. An important intervention in the study of Indian political economy, this work will be of interest to scholars and researchers of Indian politics, social anthropology, economics, labour relations and criminology.

The Long Journey Of Poppie Nongena written by Elsa Joubert and has been published by Jonathan Ball Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-10-20 with Fiction categories.

Poppie Nongena's arduous journey covers 40 years of South Africa's history, sweeping through the riots of Sharpeville, Soweto and Cape Town, on to an indefinite but unpromising future. The plot reflects the brutality and injustice of the Apartheid system, while Elsa Joubert's characterisations reflects the courage and fortitude of people in the face of hardship and difficulty. Poppie's contented childhood in the Cape's countryside came to an end when she married a migrant worker, and was forced by the authorities to move with him and their young family to the unfamiliar and bewildering city of Cape Town. No sooner had she established her roots in the new township, when the laws changed and she was informed of her obligation to relocate to the Ciskei, her husband's homeland. He, as a migrant worker, was permitted to remain in the Cape to work. Over a ten-year period, Poppie fought the heinous 'pass law' system, winning limited extensions to the permit that would allow her to live and work in Cape Town and enable her to keep the family together and provide an education for her children. Her own anger was shared by thousands and inevitably the brooding undercurrent of discontent exploded throughout South Africa. Suddenly, there were no further extensions. Poppie and her children were forcibly removed from their home and 'resettled' in a new township, hundreds of miles away near East London. The Long Journey of Poppie Nongena is an epic tale of the endless adversity and struggle of a humble black woman under Apartheid laws. Poppie emerges from being a simple country girl to becoming an archetypal heroine of South Africa.

Get off the Giant Wheel! 'Strategy' and 'innovation' are terms that have increasingly lost their meaning in today's cut-throat business environment. This book gives these words a fresh meaning to advocate new pathways for change, showing us how to turn grave adversities into lifetime opportunities. Knowledge Ocean Strategy shows us how companies like Aquachill, AirTight Networks, Serum Institutes, Mapro, Ketan Food Exports, PARI, Tata Group, Chitale Dairies and Aditya Auto Test could find simple, refreshing solutions to complex problems to create their own uncontested knowledge space. In this seminal book, innovation strategist and knowledge innovation expert, Parag Kulkarni challenges competition-based strategies and those based on a mere 'more for less' paradigm using classic examples to unfold effective strategies based on associative knowledge building. In the midst of fierce competition and a turbulent market, Knowledge Ocean Strategy presents an important breakthrough in innovation and strategic business thinking and will be a great motivator for organisations that aim to expand knowledge boundaries beyond competitive landscape. It will also help making the transition from competition- to knowledge- centric; analysis- to synthesis-centric and isolation- to association-centric organization building; a systematic approach for a big leap and knowledge advantage.
