Why would we think of utopia? Utopian thoughts are necessary to instigate social change. Without a utopian vision, something inspiring, there is no chance of social development, and the more transparent the vision, the higher the chance of its achievement. The significance of utopian thought in the contemporary world is undeniable. We are faced with ecological issues so huge that the survival of the human species might be in doubt, as well as the threats posed by overpopulation, war, terrorism, new and sometimes unbelievably dangerous technologies, cybernetic crimes, and religious extremism. Thus, a way out is obviously required and utopian thought can assist in the search for this. My Utopia is a collection of creative writing demonstrating that utopian thinking is beyond any gender, race, age, color, nationality, and border limitations. Everybody can also think of his or her utopian world regardless of the restrictions of time and place. Everyone who faces a crisis of life and faith will enjoy reading this book. The short fiction, short essays and poems in this book will be of great interest to everybody who believes in the power of literature in forcing change. This collection will give the reader ideas about how to change his or her life for a more promising future.

Utopia. A community or society possessing highly desirable or nearly perfect qualities. It may be a dream, but it's a dream that has inspired writers for thousands of years. Plato's "Republic" may be the very first utopia presented to a mass audience, but Thomas More coined the term with his 1516 book Utopia (included here), which describes a fictional island society in the Atlantic Ocean. The term (and its antonym, dystopia) quickly entered the English language. And here are 19 other works, famous and not, featuring utopias and dystopias...works by Samuel Butler, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Anna Bowman Dodd, William Morris, Sir Francis Bacon, and many others. Included are: EREWHON, by Samuel Butler MOVING THE MOUNTAIN, by Charlotte Perkins Gilman HERLAND, by Charlotte Perkins Gilman EQUALITY, by Edward Bellamy CAESAR’S COLUMN, by Ignatius Donnelly THE REPUBLIC OF THE FUTURE, by Anna Bowman Dodd A CRYSTAL AGE, by W. H. Hudson A TRAVELER FROM ALTRURIA, by W. D. Howells FREELAND: A SOCIAL ANTICIPATION, by Dr. Theodor Hertzka MIZORA: A PROPHECY, by Mary E. Bradley Lane SOLARIS FARM, by Milan C. Utopia written by Thomas More and has been published by Verso Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-11-08 with Philosophy categories.

Five hundred years since its first publication, Thomas More's Utopia remains astonishingly radical and provocative. More imagines an island nation where thousands live in peace and harmony, men and women are both educated, and property is communal. In a text hovering between fantasy, satire, blueprint and game, More explores the theories and realities behind war, political conflicts, social tensions and redistribution, and imagines the day-to-day lives of a citizenry living free from fear, oppression, violence and suffering. But there has always been a shadow at the heart of Utopia. If this is a depiction of the perfect state, why, as well as wonder, does it provoke a growing unease? In this quincentenary edition, published in conjunction with Somerset House, More's text is introduced by multi-award-winning author China Miville and accompanied by four essays from Ursula K. Le Guin, today's most distinguished utopian writer and thinker.

Seminar paper from the year 2012 in the subject Didactics for the subject English - Literature, Works, grade: 1, University of Vienna, course: Science Fiction: The Classics, language: English, abstract: One of the many features of science fiction is the creation of alternative worlds and societies. The utopia-motif has been a very creative one in doing so, constantly inspiring authors to pursuit the goal of imagining a perfect world. The motif is also productive in a sense of redevelopment, since it serves to lay out the points of criticism that occur when looking at the “real” world at times. These approaches have resulted in the formation of new motifs such as dystopia. Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World is an ambiguous masterpiece that allows the reader to reveal various levels of meaning. Researchers mainly suggest it to be read as a satire, but it is also considered to be a key work of dystopian literature. This paper points out the elements that allow us to identify Brave New World as both a utopian and dystopian narrative. It concentrates on the points of view because in my opinion they determine the motif. The thesis is that depending on the viewpoint of the different characters the two worlds Huxley presents us can be either interpreted as a utopia or dystopia. The paper aims to introduce the major terms Utopia and Dystopia, but also outline the two different worlds Huxley describes in his novel. It explores whether or not the thesis is applicable and verifiable.

Anthropologist Kristen Ghodsee looks at pioneering experiments in communal living to present a rousing argument for rethinking what we mean by home. ‘A must-read’ THOMAS PIKETTY ‘Just wonderful’ ANGELA SAINI Throughout history and around the world today, forward-thinking communities have pioneered alternative ways of living together, sharing property and raising children. In Everyday Utopia, anthropologist Kristen Ghodsee explores what we can learn from these experiments – from the ancient Greek commune founded by Pythagoras to the trail-blazing feminists of the French Revolution, from the cohousing movement in contemporary Denmark to the flourishing ecovillages of Colombia and Portugal. She shows why utopian thinking is essential to making a fairer world and that many of the best ways of getting there begin at home. ‘This warm, intelligent and lucid book takes us on a deep dive into how people have created better systems for living – systems that actually work’ ROBERT WALDINGER, author of The Good Life and director of the Harvard Study of Adult Developmet ‘Exhilarating. This carefully crafted ebook: "A Modern Utopia (Unabridged)" is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. A Modern Utopia is presented as a tale told by a sketchily described character known only as the Owner of the Voice. This character "is not to be taken as the Voice of the ostensible author who fathers these pages," Wells warns. He is accompanied by another character known as "the botanist." Interspersed in the narrative are discursive remarks on various matters, creating what Wells called in his preface "a sort of shot-silk texture between philosophical discussion on the one hand and imaginative narrative on the other." Because of the complexity and sophistication of its narrative structure, H.G. Wells's A Modern Utopia has been called "not so much a modern as a postmodern utopia." The novel is best known for its notion that a voluntary order of nobility known as the Samurai could effectively rule a "kinetic and not static" world state so as to solve "the problem of combining progress with political stability." Herbert George Wells (1866-1946), known as H. G. Wells, was a prolific English writer in many genres, including the novel, history, politics, and social commentary, and textbooks and rules for war games.

'A Place Called Utopia' is a collection of 58 poems voicing the need of breaking free from the existing order, which is tainted by dark ambition, power and greed and finding a happy place filled with love and compassion. ‘Utopia,’ as old as it may be with its first coinage by Thomas More in the 16th century, this concept is so much alive that it is still feeding our dream of freedom today.
