In den ersten Kapiteln soll geklart werden, was Nachhaltigkeit und nachhaltige Entwicklung bedeutet. Das Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, aufzuzeigen, was eine nachhaltige Stadtentwicklung ausmacht und welche Umsetzungsmoglichkeiten bestehen. Die Arbeit soll zudem zeigen, dass das Modell einer nachhaltigen Stadt nicht nur Fiktion ist, sondern bereits in die Realitat umgesetzt wurde. Diese Arbeit wird sich auf das Themenfeld der nachhaltigen Stadtentwicklung am Beispiel der Stadt Malmo in Sud-Schweden konzentrieren. Es wird aufgezeigt, welche Kriterien fur die Umsetzung des Projekts der nachhaltigen Stadtentwicklung zu beachten sind und wie die Stadt Malmo diese Punkte umgesetzt hat.

The cases have also been added into the UNEP's 10 Year Frame-work Program (10YFP) information platform, the SCP Clearinghouse which is a concrete result of Rio+20. The objective is to enhance international cooperation in order to accelerate a shift towards sustainable consumption and production in developed and developing countries. The SCP Clearinghouse is a web-based information sharing tool, which can be used by different actors as an inspiration for advancing SCP worldwide.

Inhaltsangabe:Einleitung: Der Geschäft des Reisens hat sich in den letzten Jahrzehnten zu einem der am schnellst expandierenden Wirtschaftszweige weltweit entwickelt. Mit über 800 Millionen Gästeankünften in 2005 und einer durchschnittlichen Wachstumsrate pro Jahr von 6,5% seit 1950, erzeugt die Industrie einen bedeutenden Beitrag zum Weltwirtschaftsaufkommen. Neben der ökonomischen Leistung und dem damit verbundenen Einkommen muss allen Interessensgruppen im Tourismus auch bewusst sein, dass dieser Anstieg nicht nur positive Auswirkungen auf die Destination und die Menschen vor Ort hat, sondern auch andere relevante Aspekte zu berücksichtigen sind. Die Einbeziehung von kulturellen und natürlichen Ressourcen rückt diesbezüglich enger in die planerische Betrachtung, da sie die Grundlage für den langfristigen Erfolg der wirtschaftlichen Tätigkeit sind. Der Umgang mit diesen Bausteinen ist somit von entscheidender Bedeutung. Die Forderung nach einer nachhaltigen Entwicklung im Tourismus, wie auch in anderen Bereichen, wurde infolgedessen vermehrt gestellt. Nach erstmaligen Studien und Programmen der Vereinigten Nationen und des Club of Rome in den 70er Jahren zur zukünftigen Entwicklung, wurde 1987 durch den Brundtland-Bericht der Weltkommission für Umwelt und Entwicklung erstmalig der Begriff der nachhaltigen Entwicklung in einer allgemeinen Form definiert. Seither ist der Begriff zu einer beliebten Floskel im Sprachgebrauch von Politikern, Unternehmern und auch Privatpersonen geworden. Dennoch ist häufig unklar, wie dieses Thema aufgegriffen und in entsprechende Handlungen umgesetzt wird. In Anbetracht der Größe und seines rasanten Wachstum wurden auch die einzelnen Nationen auf den Tourismus und seine Problematiken aufmerksam. In ihrer politischen Arbeit sollte daher versucht werden, den Fremdenverkehr sowohl gewinnbringend als auch nachhaltig zu gestalten. Aufgrund der hohen Komplexität und der eingeschränkten Handlungsspielräume ist geringer Aktionismus zu erkennen, was zu einer Fokussierung der nationalen Ebene geführt hat. Es stellt sich demnach für die planenden Personen in der Region die Aufgabe, die Entwicklungsrichtung zum Großteil eigenständig zu spezifizieren und auszuüben. Das Ziel darf es dabei nicht nur sein, negative Auswirkungen auf die ökonomischen, ökologischen und soziokulturellen Dimensionen zu verhindern, sondern Möglichkeiten zu erarbeiten, damit der Tourismus auch einen positiven Beitrag zur Entwicklung der Region [...]

In the 21st century, Norway, Denmark and Sweden remain the icons of fair societies, with high economic productivity and quality of life. But they are also an enigma in a cultural-evolutionary sense: though by no means following the same socio-economic formula, they are all cases of a "non-hubristic", socially sustainable modernity that puzzles outside observers. Using Nordic welfare states as its laboratory, Sustainable Modernity combines evolutionary and socio-cultural perspectives to illuminate the mainsprings of what the authors call the "well-being society". The main contention is that the Nordic uniqueness is not merely the outcome of one particular set of historical institutional or political arrangements, or sheer historical luck; rather, the high welfare creation inherent in the Nordic model has been predicated on a long and durable tradition of social cooperation, which has interacted with global competitive forces. Hence the socially sustainable Nordic modernity should be approached as an integrated and tightly orchestrated ecosystem based on a complex interplay of cooperative and competitive strategies within and across several domains: normative-cultural, socio-political and redistributive. The key question is: Can the Nordic countries uphold the balance of competition and cooperation and reproduce their resilience in the age of globalization, cultural collisions, the digital economy, the fragmentation of the work/life division, and often intrusive EU regulation? With contributors providing insights from the humanities, the social sciences and evolutionary science, this book will be of great interest to students and scholars of political science, sociology, history, institutional economics, Nordic studies and human evolution studies.
