During his years working as an instructional coach for a national network of schools, Geoff Krall had the chance to witness several inspirational moments when math class comes alive for middle or high school students - when it is challenging but also fun, creative, and interactive. In Necessary Conditions: Teaching Secondary Math with Academic Safety, Quality Tasks, and Effective Facilitation, Krall documents the essential ingredients that produce these sorts of moments on a regular basis and for all students. They are Academic Safety, Quality Tasks, and Effective Facilitation. Academic Safety: Krall implements equitable classroom experiences that help fight stigmas associated with race and gender in schools. This allows students to feel socially and emotionally secure while nurturing their identities as mathematicians and increasing engagement during classroom discussions Quality Tasks: Teachers can adapt or create dynamic, student-centered lessons that break down math into small, manageable sections, removing the frustrations felt by students who aren't considered math people Effective Facilitation: This book shows how to incorporate teaching moves and math routines designed for engagement, persistence, and interactivity. Teachers can allow students to explore safely while maintaining consistent classroom expectations. "My work as a math instructional coach for a network of schools has afforded me the unique opportunity to visit exceptional teachers across the country, documenting their tasks, teaching moves, and academically safe learning environments. You'll experience dispatches from these effective classrooms in which we'll observe how teachers attend to all three elements that make up the ecosystem." - Geoff Krall from his book, Necessary Conditions.

Analytical Thomism is a recent label for a newer kind of approach to the philosophical and natural theology of St Thomas Aquinas. It illuminates the meaning of Aquinas’s work for contemporary problems by drawing on the resources of contemporary Anglo-Saxon analytical philosophy, the work of Frege, Wittgenstein, and Kripke proving particularly significant. This book expands the discourse in contemporary debate, exploring crucial philosophical, theological and ethical issues such as: metaphysics and epistemology, the nature of God, personhood, action and meta-ethics. All those interested in the thought of St Thomas Aquinas, and more generally contemporary Catholic scholarship, problems in philosophy of religion, and contemporary metaphysics, will find this collection an invaluable resource.

Introduction To Optimum Design written by Jasbir Singh Arora and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-06-02 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Optimization is a mathematical tool developed in the early 1960's used to find the most efficient and feasible solutions to an engineering problem. It can be used to find ideal shapes and physical configurations, ideal structural designs, maximum energy efficiency, and many other desired goals of engineering. This book is intended for use in a first course on engineering design and optimization. Material for the text has evolved over a period of several years and is based on classroom presentations for an undergraduate core course on the principles of design. Virtually any problem for which certain parameters need to be determined to satisfy constraints can be formulated as a design optimization problem. The concepts and methods described in the text are quite general and applicable to all such formulations. Inasmuch, the range of application of the optimum design methodology is almost limitless, constrained only by the imagination and ingenuity of the user. The book describes the basic concepts and techniques with only a few simple applications. Once they are clearly understood, they can be applied to many other advanced applications that are discussed in the text. Allows engineers involved in the design process to adapt optimum design concepts in their work using the material in the text Basic concepts of optimality conditions and numerical methods are described with simple examples, making the material high teachable and learnable Classroom-tested for many years to attain optimum pedagogical effectiveness

Causation In Science And The Methods Of Scientific Discovery written by Rani Lill Anjum and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-09-10 with Philosophy categories.

Causation is the main foundation upon which the possibility of science rests. Without causation, there would be no scientific understanding, explanation, prediction, nor application in new technologies. How we discover causal connections is no easy matter, however. Causation often lies hidden from view and it is vital that we adopt the right methods for uncovering it. The choice of methods will inevitably reflect what one takes causation to be, making an accurate account of causation an even more pressing matter. This enquiry informs the correct norms for an empirical study of the world. In Causation in Science and the Methods of Scientific Discovery, Rani Lill Anjum and Stephen Mumford propose nine new norms of scientific discovery. A number of existing methodological and philosophical orthodoxies are challenged as they argue that progress in science is being held back by an overly simplistic philosophy of causation.

The tenth book of the Aṅguttara Nikāya, the Collection of the Numbered Discourses of the Buddha, collects 746 suttas or discourses whose subject matter is centered on groups of ten topics. The most frequent are the eight components of the eightfold path expanded to ten and also ten components of ethics. This book is especially thick because of the continuous repetitions upon repetitions with very slight variations. The volume is also notable for including extensive content on monastic discipline. As the most outstanding sutta we have AN 10.26: With Kāḷī. Fierce criticism of the Brahmanical meditation methods called "kasinas" which, in early medieval times, were included by Buddhaghosa in his entrance work to a famous Sinhalese monastery and which today some claim as "effective" methods of meditation within Buddhism. The most interesting suttas in this volume are: AN 10.6: Contemplation. Perceiving without perceiving. One of the most curious things one feels when entering current. AN 10.14: Emotional Sterility. Doubts about the Master cause emotional sterility. AN 10.19: Abodes of the Noble Ones (I). When one stops searching. AN 10.29: Kosala (I). Tremendous criticism of wrong practice. AN 10.31: With Upāli. The reasons for the establishment of the monastic code. AN 10.64: Faith. On those who have entered the stream. AN 10.65: Happiness (I). Family and friends who get together and annoy you. AN 10.76: Three things. A beautiful sutta on renunciations. AN 10.92: Dangers. Teaching on perishability and faith. AN 10.108: Physicians: Interesting sutta on physicians and the list of diseases known and treated with varying degrees of success. This book does not contain false suttas. In summary, this time the arduous and exhaustive work of research and reconstruction in comparative linguistics has been especially dense and thick.
