Neutron Scattering By Ferroelectrics written by Viktor Lazarevich Aksenov and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1990 with Science categories.

This book presents the recent theoretical and experimental developments of neutron scattering by ferroelectrics. A Model description of lattice dynamics of structurally unstable crystals (self-consistent phonon approximation, pseudo-spin formalism, coherent potential approximation etc.) is formulated. The effects of nonlinear excitations and lattice defects in neutron scattering are also discussed.

Modern Topics In Liquid Crystals written by Agnes Buka and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1993 with Science categories.

This volume contains 19 review articles, written by leading experts in the field of neutron scattering, NMR, dielectric spectroscopy, ferroelectricity, liquid crystal polymers as well as related subjects. The articles cover a broad range of topics which are currently the center of focus and interest in this field. The book will be useful for experienced researchers as well as students and those who want to enter the field. Apart from the fact that such a publication covers a gap in the literature, there is also a personal actuality. This volume will be devoted to Professor L Bata, who started the liquid crystal research in Hungary some 25 years ago and who is still head of the department at KFKI today. He initiated a lot of new subjects in the field and supported many young scientists during these years. He is celebrating his 60th birthday this year.

Research on ferroelectricity and ferroelectric materials started in 1920 with the discovery by Valasek that the variation of spontaneous polarization in Rochelle salt with sign and magnitude of an applied electric field traced a complete and reproducible hysteresis loop. Activity in the field was sporadic until 1935, when Busch and co-workers announced the observation of similar behavior in potassium dihydrogen phosphate and related compounds. Progress thereafter continued at a modest level with the undertaking of some theoretical as well as further experimental studies. In 1944, von Hippel and co-workers discovered ferroelectricity in barium titanate. The technological importance of ceramic barium titanate and other perovskites led to an upsurge of interest, with many new ferroelectrics being identified in the following decade. By 1967, about 2000 papers on various aspects of ferroelectricity had been published. The bulk of this widely dispersed literature was concerned with the experimental measurement of dielectric, crystallographic, thermal, electromechanical, elastic, optical, and magnetic properties. A critical and excellently organized cpmpilation based on these data appeared in 1969 with the publica tion of Landolt-Bornstein, Volume 111/3. This superb tabulation gave instant access to the results in the literature on nearly 450 pure substances and solid solutions of ferroelectric and antiferroelectric materials. Continuing interest in ferroelectrics, spurred by the growing importance of electrooptic crystals, resulted in the publication of almost as many additional papers by the end of 1969 as had been surveyed in Landolt-Bornstein.

Neutrons are extremely versatile probes for investigating structure and dynamics in condensed matter. Due to their large penetration depth, they are ideal for in-situ measurements of samples situated in sophisticated and advanced environments. The advent of new high-intensity neutron sources and instruments, as well as the development of new real-time techniques, allows the tracking of transformation processes in condensed matter on a microscopic scale. The present volume provides a review of the state of the art of this new and exciting field of kinetics with neutrons.

Treatise on Materials Science and Technology, Volume 15: Neutron Scattering shows how neutron scattering methods can be used to obtain important information on materials. The book discusses the general principles of neutron scattering; the techniques used in neutron crystallography; and the applications of nuclear and magnetic scattering. The text also describes the measurement of phonons, their role in phase transformations, and their behavior in the presence of crystal defects; and quasi-elastic scattering, with its special merits in the study of microscopic dynamical phenomena in solids and liquids. Special materials problems in neutron devices are also considered. Materials scientists, solid state physicists, physical chemists, and metallurgists will find the book invaluable.
