The book presents recent results and new trends in the theory of fluid mechanics. Each of the four chapters focuses on a different problem in fluid flow accompanied by an overview of available older results. The chapters are extended lecture notes from the ESSAM school "Mathematical Aspects of Fluid Flows" held in Kácov (Czech Republic) in May/June 2017. The lectures were presented by Dominic Breit (Heriot-Watt University Edinburgh), Yann Brenier (École Polytechnique, Palaiseau), Pierre-Emmanuel Jabin (University of Maryland) and Christian Rohde (Universität Stuttgart), and cover various aspects of mathematical fluid mechanics – from Euler equations, compressible Navier-Stokes equations and stochastic equations in fluid mechanics to equations describing two-phase flow; from the modeling and mathematical analysis of equations to numerical methods. Although the chapters feature relatively recent results, they are presented in a form accessible to PhD students in the field ofmathematical fluid mechanics.

This open access book presents the main results of the Collaborative Research Center SFB-TRR 75, which spanned the period from 2010 to 2022. Scientists from a variety of disciplines, ranging from thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and electrical engineering to chemistry, mathematics, computer science, and visualization, worked together toward the overarching goal of SFB-TRR 75, to gain a deep physical understanding of fundamental droplet processes, especially those that occur under extreme ambient conditions. These are, for example, near critical thermodynamic conditions, processes at very low temperatures, under the influence of strong electric fields, or in situations with extreme gradients of boundary conditions. The fundamental understanding is a prerequisite for the prediction and optimisation of engineering systems with droplets and sprays, as well as for the prediction of droplet-related phenomena in nature. The book includes results from experimental investigations aswell as new analytical and numerical descriptions on different spatial and temporal scales. The contents of the book have been organised according to methodological fundamentals, phenomena associated with free single drops, drop clusters and sprays, and drop and spray phenomena involving wall interactions.

New Trends in Fluid Mechanics Research is the proceedings of the Fifth International Conference on Fluid Mechanics (ICFM-V); it is the primary forum for the presentation of technological advances and research results in the fields of theoretical, experimental, and computational Fluid Mechanics. Following the previous conferences in Beijing (1987, 1993 and 1998) and Dalian (2004) organized by the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, the Scientific Committee for ICFM presents ICFM-V to provide a forum for researchers to exchange original ideas and recent advances in Fluid Mechanics and relevant interdisciplinary subjects. Topics include: flow instability and turbulence, aerodynamics and gas dynamics, hydrodynamics, industrial and environmental fluid mechanics, biofluid mechanics, geophysical fluid mechanics, plasma and magneto-hydrodynamics, multiphase flows, non-Newtonian flows and flows in porous media, flow of reacting fluid, microscale flow and others.

Finite Volumes For Complex Applications X Volume 1 Elliptic And Parabolic Problems written by Emmanuel Franck and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-09-30 with Mathematics categories.

This volume comprises the first part of the proceedings of the 10th International Conference on Finite Volumes for Complex Applications, FVCA, held in Strasbourg, France, during October 30 to November 3, 2023. The Finite Volume method, and several of its variants, is a spatial discretization technique for partial differential equations based on the fundamental physical principle of conservation. Recent decades have brought significant success in the theoretical understanding of the method. Many finite volume methods are also built to preserve some properties of the continuous equations, including maximum principles, dissipativity, monotone decay of the free energy, asymptotic stability, or stationary solutions. Due to these properties, finite volume methods belong to the wider class of compatible discretization methods, which preserve qualitative properties of continuous problems at the discrete level. This structural approach to the discretization of partial differential equations becomes particularly important for multiphysics and multiscale applications. In recent years, the efficient implementation of these methods in numerical software packages, more specifically to be used in supercomputers, has drawn some attention. This volume contains all invited papers, as well as the contributed papers focusing on finite volume schemes for elliptic and parabolic problems. They include structure-preserving schemes, convergence proofs, and error estimates for problems governed by elliptic and parabolic partial differential equations. The second volume is focused on finite volume methods for hyperbolic and related problems, such as methods compatible with the low Mach number limit or able to exactly preserve steady solutions, the development and analysis of high order methods, or the discretization of kinetic equations.

Mechanics Of Mixtures written by Kumbakonam Ramamani Rajagopal and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995 with Science categories.

This book presents a unified treatment of the mechanics of mixtures of several constituents within the context of continuum mechanics. After an introduction to the basic theory in the first few chapters, the book deals with a detailed exposition of the mechanics of a mixture of a fluid and an elastic solid, which is either isotropic or anisotropic and is capable of undergoing large deformations. Issues regarding the specification of boundary conditions for mixtures are discussed in detail and several boundary value and initial-boundary value problems are solved. The status of some special theories like those of Darcy and Biot are discussed. Such a study has relevance to several technologically significant problems in geomechanics, biomechanics, diffusion of contaminants and the swelling and absorption of fluids in polymers and polymer composites, to mention a few.

The June 2001 conference brought together mathematicians, computational scientists, and engineers working on the mathematical and numerical treatment of fluid flow and transport in porous media. This collection of 43 papers from that conference reports on recent advances in network flow modeling, parallel computation, optimization, upscaling, uncertainty reduction, media characterization, and chemically reactive phenomena. Topics include modeling horizontal wells using hybrid grids in reservoir simulation, a high order Lagrangian scheme for flow through unsaturated porous media, and a streamline front tracking method for two- and three- phase flow. This marks the 100th volume to appear in the Applied Mathematical Sci ences series. Partial Differential Equations, by Fritz John, the first volume of the series, appeared in 1971. One year prior to its appearance, the then mathematics editor of Springer-Verlag, Klaus Peters, organized a meeting to look into the possibility of starting a series slanted toward applications. The meeting took place in New Rochelle, at the home of Fritz and Char lotte John. K.O. Friedrichs, Peter Lax, Monroe Donsker, Joe Keller, and others from the Courant Institute (previously, the Institute for Mathemat ical Sciences) were present as were Joe LaSalle and myself, the two of us having traveled down from Providence for the meeting. The John home, a large, comfortable house, especially lent itself to the informal, relaxed, and wide-ranging discussion that ensued. What emerged was a consensus that mathematical applications appeared to be poised for a period of growth and that there was a clear need for a series committed to applied mathematics. The first paragraph ofthe editorial statement written at that time reads as follows: The mathematization of all sciences, the fading of traditional scientific boundaries, the impact of computer technology, the growing importance of mathematical-computer modeling and the necessity of scientific planning all create the need both in education and research for books that are introductory to and abreast of these developments.

Stability Criteria For Fluid Flows written by Adelina Georgescu and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with Science categories.

This is a comprehensive and self-contained introduction to the mathematical problems of thermal convection. The book delineates the main ideas leading to the authors' variant of the energy method. These can be also applied to other variants of the energy method. The importance of the book lies in its focussing on the best concrete results known in the domain of fluid flows stability and in the systematic treatment of mathematical instruments used in order to reach them.
