Newnes Engineering and Physical Science Pocket Book is an easy reference of engineering formulas, definitions, and general information. Part One deals with the definitions and formulas used in general engineering science, such as those concerning SI units, density, scalar and vector quantities, and standard quantity symbols and their units. Part Two pertains to electrical engineering science and includes basic d.c. circuit theory, d.c. circuit analysis, electromagnetism, and electrical measuring instruments. Part Three involves mechanical engineering and physical science. This part covers formulas on speed, velocity, acceleration, force, as well as definitions and discussions on waves, interference, diffraction, the effect of forces on materials, hardness, and impact tests. Part Four focuses on chemistry — atoms, molecules, compounds and mixtures. This part examines the laws of chemical combination, relative atomic masses, molecular masses, the mole concept, and chemical bonding in element or compounds. This part also discusses organic chemistry (carbon based except oxides, metallic carbonates, metallic hydrogen carbonate, metallic carbonyls) and inorganic chemistry (non-carbon elements). This book is intended as a reference for students, technicians, scientists, and engineers in their studies or work in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemistry, and general engineering science.

Newnes Physical Science: Pocket Book for Engineers presents an extensive examination of the essential physical sciences formulae, definitions, and general information on general science, physics, electrical science, and chemistry. Some of the topics covered in the book are the metric table; definition and formulation of density; scalar and vector quantities; determination of speed and velocity; linear momentum and impulse; characteristics of sound waves; principle of superposition; the effects of forces on materials; and center of gravity and equilibrium. The evaluation of coplanar forces acting at a point is completely presented. A chapter is devoted to the examination of shearing force and bending moments. Another section focuses on the kinetic energy of rotation, identification of simple machines, and measurement of temperature. The advantages and disadvantages of using mercury in a thermometer and types of saturated and super-saturated solutions are briefly covered. The book serves as a handy reference guide for engineers, scientists, technicians, students, and researchers.

Science For All written by Peter J. Bowler and has been published by University of Chicago Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-10-15 with Science categories.

Recent scholarship has revealed that pioneering Victorian scientists endeavored through voluminous writing to raise public interest in science and its implications. But it has generally been assumed that once science became a profession around the turn of the century, this new generation of scientists turned its collective back on public outreach. Science for All debunks this apocryphal notion. Peter J. Bowler surveys the books, serial works, magazines, and newspapers published between 1900 and the outbreak of World War II to show that practicing scientists were very active in writing about their work for a general readership. Science for All argues that the social environment of early twentieth-century Britain created a substantial market for science books and magazines aimed at those who had benefited from better secondary education but could not access higher learning. Scientists found it easy and profitable to write for this audience, Bowler reveals, and because their work was seen as educational, they faced no hostility from their peers. But when admission to colleges and universities became more accessible in the 1960s, this market diminished and professional scientists began to lose interest in writing at the nonspecialist level. Eagerly anticipated by scholars of scientific engagement throughout the ages, Science for All sheds light on our own era and the continuing tension between science and public understanding.

The book offers an updated perspective on the unique characteristics of millets. Millets are consumed for their health/nutritional benefits, and in the preparation of specialty foods for target groups – from pediatrics to geriatrics. Recent trends suggest the importance of millet in the human diet due to their nutritional importance, ability to grow in high temperatures and drought conditions, and their resistance to pests and diseases. This book highlights different types of millet and discusses their properties as well as nutritional and anti-nutritional values. In addition, the book also provides information on the physiochemical properties, future prospects, current methodologies, and agricultural practices. The last few parts cover the emerging technologies in millet processing, by-products utilization, quality standards, and the current millet industry scenario. The book provides a comprehensive overview of the status of millet processing, quality, and nutraceutical product manufacture. The book is a resourceful read for students and researchers in food sciences, as well as industry experts.
