This volume contains contributions based on the lectures delivered at the Third In ternational Workshop on Nonlinear Dynamics and Quantum Phenomena in Opti cal Systems, which was held in Blanes, Girona, Spain, 1-3 October 1990. Blanes is a charming small town located on the well-known Costa Brava. With the con venient facilities of the Centre for Advanced Studies (CEAB), Blanes followed of the previous meetings of this series, which were held at Palma the tradition de Mallorca and Santander. We aimed to provide an opportunity for scientists active in the broad field of quantum optics to meet in an informal atmosphere, thus promoting the ex change of ideas and allowing a search for interconnections between seemingly unrelated topics and a cross fertilization of the different subfields of quantum optics. We encouraged contributions dealing with the newest and most important developments in quantum optics. The main topics included instabilities, chaos, spatiotemporal dynamics, and pattern formation in lasers and nonlinear optical devices; phase dynamics; generation and detection of squeezed and other non classical states of light; coherent interaction of light with atomic systems; and multiphoton processes and above-threshold ionization. The meeting brought together a group of 72 optical scientists from Belgium, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, USA, and USSR. In the technical program, nine invited papers were included, presented by eight distinguished specialists.

This self-contained treatment of field quantization requires no prior knowledge of nonlinear optics. Supplemented by end-of-chapter exercises and detailed examples of calculation techniques in different systems, it is a valuable resource for graduate students and researchers in nonlinear optics, condensed matter physics, quantum information and atomic physics.

In Nonlinear Dynamics and Pattern Formation in Semiconductors and Devices the contributions of the International Conference on Nonlinear Dynamics and Pattern Formation in the Natural Environment (ICPF '94) in Noordwijkerhout, held by many internationally reknown experts, are compiled. To connect the field of semiconductor physics with the theory of nonequilibrium dissipative systems, the emphasis lies on the study of localized structures, their stability and bifurcation behaviour. A point of special interest is the evolution of dynamic structures and the investigation of more complex structures arising from interactions between these structures. Possible applications of nonlinear effects and self-organization phenomena with respect to signal processing are discussed.

It was more than ten years ago that an original version of this monograph was published with the title Quantum Optics in Japanese from Iwanami Shoten in Tokyo. Therefore, making the best use of this chance to translate the book into an English version, we have tried to include the exciting developments of the relevant subjects in these ten years, especially novel nonlinear optical responses of materials. The ?rst example of these nonlinear optical phen- ena is laser cooling and subsequent observation of Bose–Einstein and Fermi condensation of neutral atoms. Second, it is now possible to generate f- tosecond laser pulses. Then higher-harmonics in the extreme ultraviolet and soft X-ray regions and higher-order Raman scattering can be generated by irradiating these ultrashort laser pulses on atomic and molecular gases and crystals. These multistep signals are applied to the generation of attosecond laser pulses. Third, interference e?ects of the second harmonics are used to observe the ferroelectric and antiferromagnetic domain structures of crystals with a strongly correlated electronic system. These novel nonlinear optical phenomena could not be treated without the quantized radiation ?eld. We already have classical textbooks treating, individually, the quantum theory of the radiation ?eld and nonlinear optics. Taking account of these situations, we have described these exciting nonlinear optical responses as well as laser oscillation and supperradiance, based upon the quantum theory of the radiation ?eld. At the same time, we have changed the title of this monograph toQuantum Nonlinear Optics.

Nonlinearity With Disorder written by Fatkulla Abdullaev and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Science categories.
In the past three decades there has been enormous progress in identifying the essential role that nonlinearity plays in physical systems, including supporting soliton-like solutions and self-trapped sxcitations such as polarons. during the same period, similarly impressive progress has occurred in understanding the effects of disorder in linear quantum problems, especially regarding Anderson localization arising from impurities, random spatial structures, stochastic applied fields, and so forth. These striking consequences of disorder, noise and nonlinearity frequently occur together in physical systems. Yet there have been only limited attempts to develop systematic techniques which can include all of these ingredients, which may reinforce, complement or frustrate each other. This book contains a range of articles which provide important steps toward the goal of systematic understanding and classification of phenomenology. Experts from Australia, Europe, Japan, USA, and the USSR describe both mathematical and numerical techniques - especially from soliton and statistical physics disciplines - and applicaations to a number of important physical systems and devices, including optical and electronic transmission lines, liquid crystals, biophysics and magnetism.
