No Brasil, mais da metade dos adultos estão com excesso de massa corporal, e mais de 20% com obesidade. Existem fortes evidências do ambiente obesogênico na contribuição do aumento dessa pandemia. O estilo de vida moderno colabora para o sedentarismo, depressão e compulsão alimentar, que estão amplamente associados à baixa qualidade de vida. A terapia interdisciplinar tem sido considerada um tratamento eficaz para obesidade, e os aspectos cognitivos estão ganhando cada vez mais atenção nesse contexto. Os objetivos desta tese foram: analisar e comparar os efeitos de três programas: Educação e Saúde (ES); Exercício Físico (EF); Terapia Interdisciplinar com Terapia cognitivo-comportamental (TI+TCC), de longo prazo para adultos com obesidade; e verificar associação entre frequência alimentar e compulsão alimentar nos mesmos programas. Dessa forma, 98 voluntários foram randomizados nos programas. Os resultados foram: a qualidade de vida total aumentou significativamente no Educação e Saúde. Os voluntários do Exercício Físico diminuíram a massa corporal. E os voluntários do Programa Interdisciplinar melhoraram o perfil antropométrico; a qualidade de vida; diminuíram o comportamento alimentar e os sintomas de depressão e os sintomas de compulsão alimentar. Não foram observadas mudanças significativas nos sintomas de ansiedade, no entanto, esse é um aspecto que deixamos em aberto para futuras investigações.
