Our working conditions have undergone rapid and fundamental changes during the last few years. One example is the widespread use of the individual computer in the shop, office and home. Another major development is that women now hold many jobs that used to be in the male domain, and that many more women choose a life-long occupational career. Workforces, tasks, conditions and tools are changing. Many office and industrial workers are tied to human-machine systems. Repetitive work can create cumulative health problems such as the often reported visual strains, mental stress and physical injury. Proper ergonomic measures can avoid such harmful effects and instead promote health conditions which are both efficient and agreeable. In this latest edition of Fitting the Task to the Human, Professor Karl Kroemer has revised and updated the text and data while remaining true to the spirit of Professor Etienne Grandjean's earlier editions. This aim is, as before, to impart basic knowledge of occupational ergonomics in a straightforward and lucid fashion to those responsible for the design, management and safety of people in the workplace, and to those who study it.

Human resource practitioners are repeatedly faced with the challenge of effectively using language to clearly describe the work performed on a job. Functional Job Analysis--an internationally recognized and respected job analysis method --has been meeting this challenge for more than forty years. In this book, the authors show how human resource practitioners can use structured task statements and comprehensive rating scales to gain the perspective needed to map the domain of any job. In response to the demands of human resource practitioners, the book focuses on the seven scales used in Functional Job Analysis. More than 450 structured tasks were used to illustrate the breadth and scope of all the levels of these scales. These tasks can be used effectively as benchmarks to chart the work requirements of virtually any job. Personnel practitioners will find insights into the challenges of job analysis, as well as the tools needed to make job analysis more comprehensive, useful, and effective for human resources. Representing the most comprehensive information to date on the use of Functional Job Analysis scales for rating job tasks, this book: *addresses the problems of using language to clearly describe how work is performed on the job; *describes the relation between the need to carefully control the language of job analysis and the structure inherent in the Functional Job Analysis Worker Function scales--a conceptual link showing the reader that the key to understanding work is in the vocabulary used to describe work; *contains the most comprehensive treatment of the way to write clear and comprehensive task statements available in the job analysis literature; and *contains a sample task bank for the job of Functional Job Analysts--aiding the reader in understanding how a complete Functional Job Analysis should look.

Occupational Hazards written by David M. Edelstein and has been published by Cornell University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-07-20 with Political Science categories.

Few would contest that the U.S. occupation of Iraq is a clear example of just how fraught a military occupation can become. In Occupational Hazards, David M. Edelstein elucidates the occasional successes of military occupations and their more frequent failures. Edelstein has identified twenty-six cases since 1815 in which an outside power seized control of a territory where the occupying party had no long-term claim on sovereignty. In a book that has implications for present-day policy, he draws evidence from such historical cases as well as from four current occupations—Bosnia, Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Iraq—where the outcome is not yet known. Occupation is difficult, in Edelstein's view, because ambitious goals require considerable time and resources, yet both the occupied population and the occupying power want occupation to end quickly and inexpensively; in drawn-out occupations, impatience grows and resources dwindle. This combination sabotages the occupying power's ability to accomplish two tasks: convince an occupied population to suppress its nationalist desires and sustain its own commitment to the occupation. Structural conditions and strategic choices play crucial roles in the success or failure of an occupation. In describing those factors, Edelstein prescribes a course of action for the future.

To respond to the renewed focus by the occupational therapy profession upon occupation, the fifth edition of Activity Analysis and Application has been updated and renamed to reflect this latest emphasis. While Activity Analysis: Application to Occupation, Fifth Edition maintains the sequential process of learning activity analysis, this step-by-step approach now helps students analyze activity for the purpose of optimizing the client's occupational performance. Gayle Hersch, Nancy Lamport, and Margaret Coffey successfully guide students through the development of clinical reasoning skills critical to planning a client's return to meaningful engagement in valued occupations. The authors utilize a straightforward teaching approach that allows students to progress developmentally in understanding both the analysis and application of activity to client intervention. The Occupational Therapy Practice Framework: Domain and Process, with a prominent focus on occupation as this profession's philosophical basis for practice, has been incorporated in the updated forms and explanations of the activity analysis approach. Activity Analysis: Application to Occupation, Fifth Edition is a worthy contribution to the professional education of occupational therapists in furthering their understanding and application of activity and occupation. Features: The newly titled Client-Activity Intervention Plan that synthesizes the activity analysis into client application. Objectives at the beginning of each unit. Discussion questions and examples of daily life occupations. A Web site including 5 forms where students and practitioners can download and print information for class assignments and clinical settings.
