Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive imaging test that uses light waves to take cross-section pictures of the retina, the light-sensitive tissue lining the back of the eye (geteyesmart.org). Anterior segment OCT covers structures in front of the vitreous humour – iris, cornea, lens and ciliary body. Posterior segment OCT includes the anterior hyaloid membrane and all the structures behind it – vitreous humour, retina, choroid and optic nerve. This book is a comprehensive guide to the use of OCT in anterior and posterior segment surgery. Beginning with an introduction to the technique, the following chapters examine OCT for numerous different procedures including for corneal disorders, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, keratoconus and refractive surgery. The accompanying interactive DVD ROM demonstrates intraoperative use of OCT for different surgical procedures. Key points Comprehensive guide to OCT in anterior and posterior segment surgery Covers numerous procedures for different parts of the eye Interactive DVD ROM demonstrates intraoperative use of OCT Includes nearly 270 clinical photographs, diagrams and tables

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) imaging technology has become an essential component of ophthalmic examinations globally. Its range of applications and analytical capabilities are continuously expanding and optimizing as the understanding among ophthalmologists worldwide advances. It is crucial to recognize that OCT technology is not only exceptionally beneficial for the objective assessment of retinal structure and function but also plays a significant role in evaluating the anterior segment, including the anterior chamber angle, lens, and cornea. When integrated with surgical microscopes, OCT is vital for optimizing surgical decision-making and refining intraoperative strategies. Nonetheless, every ophthalmologist must be cognizant of the limitations associated with OCT, such as imaging range, depth, and penetration capabilities. In this era of rapid technological advancement, integrating multimodal OCT imaging with artificial intelligence is poised to showcase substantial advantages. This combination facilitates objective and accurate diagnoses and significantly enhances diagnostic and therapeutic efficiency, optimizing the overall treatment process.

Image-based digital tools include a range of technologies such as 3D modeling, 3D printing, Virtual Reality (VR), and Augmented Reality (AR), originating from a common data source, i.e. patient diagnostic imaging. Also, artificial intelligence (AI) is a rapidly increasing technology that can be applied to diagnostic imaging. In recent years these tools have attracted great attention in the medical field to support preoperative planning, intraoperative guidance, diagnostics, and therapeutics, as well as for educational purposes. Indeed, interventional procedures and surgery applications are being developed to display virtual medical images and patient-specific 3D virtual models that can be manipulated before the intervention. These virtual anatomical models can be used to build physical replicas and/or to design patient-specific surgical tools and therapeutic devices using advanced 3D printing technologies. The virtual models can also be visually overlaid, fused, or integrated into reality using AR. With AR visualization, different types of virtual information can be projected in the surgeon’s line of view, facilitating navigation and decision-making. Also, AI applied to diagnostic medical images is expected to produce significant innovations, such as more efficient automatic image scan and processing and a more efficient examination and diagnosis workflow.

Assessing Ocular Toxicology In Laboratory Animals written by Andrea B Weir and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-04 with Medical categories.

Ocular toxicity is routinely assessed in toxicology studies conducted for regulatory purposes. Ocular anatomy and physiology and the assessment of ocular toxicity itself can be challenging to scientists involved in the safety assessment of pharmaceuticals, pesticides and other agents. Anatomical and physiological differences between species can impact the nature of ocular effects observed following intended or unintended exposure of ocular tissues to xenobiotics. Ocular Toxicity in Laboratory Animals provides a concise reference addressing ocular anatomy and physiology across species that will enhance the design and interpretation of toxicology studies conducted for regulatory purposes. The book provides an overview of routine and advanced techniques that are used to assess ocular toxicity including slit lamp biomicroscopy, indirect ophthalmoscopy, electrophysiology and imaging methods for the anterior and posterior segments of the eye. Additionally, the book defines the regulatory expectations for pharmaceuticals intended to treat ocular diseases and for other non-pharmaceutical regulated chemicals. With contributions from experts in the field, Ocular Toxicity in Laboratory Animals is an authoritative, accessible guide for toxicologists and other scientists involved in conducting toxicology studies for regulatory purposes and/or reviewing data from such studies.
