Ippen (1239-1289) was a wandering hijiri (holy man) and religious leader whose movement developed into one of the major schools of medieval Japanese Buddhism. In his life and thought we find elements of folk practices and mountain austerities, the critical spirit of Zen, and the cosmic vision of esoteric traditions. This volume presents a translation of all of Ippen's extant writings, including letters and verse, together with records of his spoken words.

This book will finally give a face and a voice to those we so easily forget in our society. It will tell the highly personal, human and sometimes surprisingly uplifting stories of real people struggling in a crumbling system. By telling their stories, we will come to know these people; to know their hopes and fears, their complexities and their contradictions. We will learn a little more about human relationships, in all their messiness. And we’ll learn how, with just a little too much misfortune, any of us could find ourselves homeless, even become one of the hundreds of people dying on Britain’s streets. As the number of rough sleepers skyrockets across the UK, No Fixed Abode by Maeve McClenaghan will also bring to light many of the ad-hoc projects attempting to address the problem. You will meet some of the courageous people who dedicate their lives to saving the forgotten of our society and see that the smallest act of kindness or affection can save a life. This is a timely and important book encompassing wider themes of inequality and austerity measures; through the prism of homelessness, it offers a true picture of Britain today – and shows how terrifyingly close to breaking point we really are.

No Fixed Abode written by Marc Augé and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013 with French fiction categories.

In recent years, social workers have raised a new concern about the appearance of a new category among the working poor. Even employed, there are people so overburdened by the cost of living and so under compensated that they cannot afford a place to sleep. Contrary to popular opinion, according to the website for the Coalition for the Homeless, forty-four percent of the homeless in first world countries actually have jobs. In No Fixed Abode, Marc Augé's pathbreaking ethnofiction--a fictional ethnography--a man named Henri narrates his strange existence in the margins of Paris. By day he walks the streets, lingers in conversation with the local shopkeepers, and sits writing in cafés, but at night he takes shelter in an abandoned house. From here, we see a progressive erosion of Henri's identity, a loss of bearings, and a slow degeneration of his ability to relate to others. But then he meets the artist Dominique, whose willingness to share her life with him raises questions about who he has become and about what a person needs in order to be a part of society. This is a book about how we live in geographical space and how work and patterns of domicile affect our status and our inner being. Despite the apparent simplicity of the fictional premise, Augé's book asks serious questions about the nature of our culture.

No Fixed Abode written by Sarah Armstrong and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-08-05 with Byron Bay (N.S.W.) categories.

Most Australians find it hard to look at a `homeless¿ person. They prefer to stare straight ahead and pretend that the hungry, damaged and lonely human being in their peripheral vision simply doesn¿t exist. Apparently it¿s just easier that way. If refusing to even make eye contact is hardwired in the masses, then talking to them and listening to their stories is out of the question. This book gently addresses that callous disconnect by giving otherwise stifled, invisible Australians a face and a voice. By exploring the stories of people from around Byron Bay who¿ve fallen through society¿s cracks, readers can only better understand some of the common trajectories of disenfranchisement ¿ and what a truly horrible thing it is to be without a home.People of no fixed abode are in the critical eye of those who live comfortably and don¿t want their neighbourhoods to play host to `social misfits¿ and `undesirables¿. They have no money and therefore, in the eyes of our consumerist world, they don¿t contribute to the economy. It¿s sad to admit but if a human being has no money then, as far as capitalist society is concerned, they have no worth. They become invisible and almost cease to exist. The photographs and stories in this book prove otherwise.Without these brave men and women who have been prepared to share their experiences from life on the periphery ¿ no matter how uncomfortable the experience ¿ there¿s little hope we will ever bridge the gap. So the next time you see a `homeless¿ person, consider that it might be your turn to step out of your comfort zone. Don¿t be afraid to make eye contact, don¿t hesitate to smile, and don¿t think twice about saying g¿day. It could only start to make life a little better ¿ for both of you.

Welcome To My Humble Abode written by Tyler P. Love and has been published by Trafford Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-12-10 with Poetry categories.

Tyler P. Love was born into a home filled with suppressed emotions and pain. Following his parents divorce, he resorted to drugs, alcohol, and, eventually, one failed suicide attempt. He felt broken, lost, and alone until he found poetry. The written word became his emotional outlet; it also paved the road to his recovery. Welcome to My Humble Abode is a collection of Loves early and more recent poetry, arranged as a piercing look into the mind of a troubled teen. As an adolescent, Love experienced love and lost it. He experienced the deaths of those close to him. He has suffered through depression and survived, with the aid of poetry. Troubled children are not alone. There are always others who have gone through similar tough times, and Love is a prime example. He thought he was alone until he found poetry. No child should ever suffer without hope, so this is what Loves words attempt to give. They reach out to heal. They reach out to embrace.

Islam And The Abode Of War written by David Ayalon and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-03-23 with History categories.

This fourth selection of studies by David Ayalon takes up the theme of the preceding volume, that of the opposition between the Abode of Islam and the external world, the Abode of War. Similarly, a number of the articles are concerned with the impact of outsiders, moving into the world of Islam, but others focus on aspects of the conflict between the two worlds, for instance raising the question of why it was only on the Nubian frontier that the early Arab advance was halted. The majority of the studies however concentrate on the Mamluk institution, especially in Mamluk Egypt, and carry forward the author's argument of the decisiveness of the slave institution in Muslim society, particularly this socio-military component which played such a critical role in both the expansion and the defense of Islam.
