Benasayag fotografa una società segnata da una solitudine essenziale e devastata dall’individualismo neoliberista, dal mito della prestazione illimitata, dalla legge della competizione senza quartiere. Nella vita pubblica come in quella privata, sul luogo di lavoro come negli affetti più intimi, prospera una sofferenza senza parole, una sofferenza che l’individuo non sa riconoscere come malessere, non sa ricondurre all’angoscia che prova di fronte a un mondo di relazioni lacerate, non sa decifrare come irrinunciabile desiderio di sottrarsi a una domanda di performance spietata e insostenibile. È questa solitudine fondamentale, ci spiega Benasayag, a generare i sintomi silenziosi del nostro tempo: gli attacchi di panico, l’impotenza ignara e quasi soddisfatta, la depressione che viviamo senza dolore e al limite senza tristezza. Di fronte a questo paesaggio la mossa di Benasayag è duplice. Da un lato, denuncia l’ambiguità e la collusione dei saperi e delle pratiche che dovrebbero farsi carico di quella solitudine; dall’altro, sviluppa una proposta radicalmente alternativa alla folle normalità neoliberista.

The impact of the digital world and its algorithms on human beings and society We read all sorts of things about AI, as the promise of a future happiness or as a threat capable of putting an end to humanity. While we cannot be "for" or "against" AI – it's already here, and not likely to disappear any time soon - the question we face is how to exist as human beings - individually, socially, collectively - in a world governed by algorithms. Since the dawn of humanity, technological objects have intersected with the human mind: it is we who have shaped them; but as we use them, they in turn shape our brain. With the development of new technologies, this hybridization is becoming more and more apparent, and machines now threaten to colonize us, if we use them badly. AI allows us to make many kinds of work easier, but these benefits often come at the cost of reducing a person to a set of micro-data, far removed from the human characteristics that define him. Worse yet: the whole economy is now subject to the "decisions" suggested by machines. We have entered an era of algorithmic governmentality, in which leaders have deliberately delegated their decision-making to AI. How, then, can we still talk about democracy? And consequently, how can we organize collective action, confronted by a power that is based on the supposed infallibility of machines? This book aims to explore the impact of human alterations of Earth’s ecological systems on human health. Human activities are producing fundamental biophysical changes faster than ever before in the history of our species, which are accompanied by dangerous health effects. Drawing on advanced ecological principles, the book demonstrates the importance of using systemic medicine to study the effects of ecological alterations on human health. Planetary Health is an interdisciplinary field, but first of all it must be systemic and it needs a preferential relationship between Ecology and Medicine. This relation is to be upgrading, because today both ecology and medicine pursue few systemic characters and few correct interrelations. We need to refer to new principles and methods sustained by the most advanced fields, as Landscape Bionomics and Systemic Medicine. Thus, we will be able to better discover environmental syndromes and their consequences on human health. Environmental transformations proposed by PHA (from biodiversity shifts to climate change) do not consider bionomic dysfunctions which can menace human health. On the contrary, finding advanced diagnostic criteria in landscape syndromes can strongly help to find the effects on human well-being. The passage from sick care to health care can’t avoid the mentioned upgrading.
