A “hard-hitting apocalyptic thriller” from award-winning author Scott Mackay in which mankind discovers that it is not alone in the universe—and that it is far from the highest form of life...(Booklist) At a lunar research station on Earth’s moon, scientists are stunned to witness the sudden appearance of a massive silver sphere that leaves destruction in its wake. Seemingly indifferent to the human beings it has devastated with its arrival, the sphere takes up residence in a crater. From there, it unleashes dozens of strange tower-like structures that surround the moon. Little can be uncovered about the object, except that it has travelled millions of light years, and is in communication with a distant galaxy. But its ominous purpose soon becomes clear when it manipulates the sun into an accelerated life cycle, hurtling it toward its Earth-destroying red dwarf end-stage. Only scientist Dr. Cameron Conrad divines the intelligent design operating behind this solar manipulation. He knows that to those controlling the sphere, humans seem like little more than insects. He is the only one who at last understands their truly alien nature enough to tell them, through the startling hyper-dimensionality in which they, exist that their science experiment with the sun may annihilate all humankind... “Mackay’s clearly working with some ideas and concepts that are way outside the norm, and it makes for a gripping story. His aliens are, well, properly alien, existing on levels far beyond our normal range of understanding...” —SF SITE

Mathematical Methods Using Python written by Vasilis Pagonis and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-05-14 with Computers categories.

This advanced undergraduate textbook presents a new approach to teaching mathematical methods for scientists and engineers. It provides a practical, pedagogical introduction to utilizing Python in Mathematical and Computational Methods courses. Both analytical and computational examples are integrated from its start. Each chapter concludes with a set of problems designed to help students hone their skills in mathematical techniques, computer programming, and numerical analysis. The book places less emphasis on mathematical proofs, and more emphasis on how to use computers for both symbolic and numerical calculations. It contains 182 extensively documented coding examples, based on topics that students will encounter in their advanced courses in Mechanics, Electronics, Optics, Electromagnetism, Quantum Mechanics etc. An introductory chapter gives students a crash course in Python programming and the most often used libraries (SymPy, NumPy, SciPy, Matplotlib). This is followed by chapters dedicated to differentiation, integration, vectors and multiple integration techniques. The next group of chapters covers complex numbers, matrices, vector analysis and vector spaces. Extensive chapters cover ordinary and partial differential equations, followed by chapters on nonlinear systems and on the analysis of experimental data using linear and nonlinear regression techniques, Fourier transforms, binomial and Gaussian distributions. The book is accompanied by a dedicated GitHub website, which contains all codes from the book in the form of ready to run Jupyter notebooks. A detailed solutions manual is also available for instructors using the textbook in their courses. Key Features: A unique teaching approach which merges mathematical methods and the Python programming skills which physicists and engineering students need in their courses Uses examples and models from physical and engineering systems, to motivate the mathematics being taught Students learn to solve scientific problems in three different ways: traditional pen-and-paper methods, using scientific numerical techniques with NumPy and SciPy, and using Symbolic Python (SymPy).

Programming For Computations Matlab Octave written by Svein Linge and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-08-01 with Computers categories.

This book presents computer programming as a key method for solving mathematical problems. There are two versions of the book, one for MATLAB and one for Python. The book was inspired by the Springer book TCSE 6: A Primer on Scientific Programming with Python (by Langtangen), but the style is more accessible and concise, in keeping with the needs of engineering students. The book outlines the shortest possible path from no previous experience with programming to a set of skills that allows the students to write simple programs for solving common mathematical problems with numerical methods in engineering and science courses. The emphasis is on generic algorithms, clean design of programs, use of functions, and automatic tests for verification.

It is 2434 in a faraway galaxy where the Bria race has just been wiped out. Commander Iaxxlys, the leader of the Larin fleet ostensibly responsible for the annihilation of the Bria, is awaiting execution. Spurred by the notion that the council has been infiltrated, Iaxxlyss first officer breaks him out of his holding cell and together, with several troops, the two escape the planet in an effort to save their people from extinction. The Larin civil war has officially begun. One year later after Captain Radford of the Innerstellar Space Fleet is ordered to investigate a mysterious vessel that has appeared several light years away, he and his squadron are sent straight into a brutal encounter with an unknown enemy. After the Fleet learns they are the focus of the Larin civil war and prepare to defend the Sol System, Radford discovers the Larins may not be acting of their own accord. As a plot is revealed to wipe out all intelligent life and a mysterious race appears, now only time will tell if the Larins and the humans can put their differences aside to prevent mysterious forces from enveloping the galaxy. The Omega Endeavor is the gripping tale of an epic space battle between good and evil as the future of mankind hangs precariously in the balance.

This book is published open access under a CC BY 4.0 license. This book presents computer programming as a key method for solving mathematical problems. This second edition of the well-received book has been extensively revised: All code is now written in Python version 3.6 (no longer version 2.7). In addition, the two first chapters of the previous edition have been extended and split up into five new chapters, thus expanding the introduction to programming from 50 to 150 pages. Throughout the book, the explanations provided are now more detailed, previous examples have been modified, and new sections, examples and exercises have been added. Also, a number of small errors have been corrected. The book was inspired by the Springer book TCSE 6: A Primer on Scientific Programming with Python (by Langtangen), but the style employed is more accessible and concise, in keeping with the needs of engineering students. The book outlines the shortest possible path from no previous experience with programming to a set of skills that allows students to write simple programs for solving common mathematical problems with numerical methods in the context of engineering and science courses. The emphasis is on generic algorithms, clean program design, the use of functions, and automatic tests for verification.

Traveling Wave Analysis Of Partial Differential Equations written by Graham Griffiths and has been published by Academic Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-12-09 with Mathematics categories.

Although the Partial Differential Equations (PDE) models that are now studied are usually beyond traditional mathematical analysis, the numerical methods that are being developed and used require testing and validation. This is often done with PDEs that have known, exact, analytical solutions. The development of analytical solutions is also an active area of research, with many advances being reported recently, particularly traveling wave solutions for nonlinear evolutionary PDEs. Thus, the current development of analytical solutions directly supports the development of numerical methods by providing a spectrum of test problems that can be used to evaluate numerical methods. This book surveys some of these new developments in analytical and numerical methods, and relates the two through a series of PDE examples. The PDEs that have been selected are largely "named'' since they carry the names of their original contributors. These names usually signify that the PDEs are widely recognized and used in many application areas. The authors’ intention is to provide a set of numerical and analytical methods based on the concept of a traveling wave, with a central feature of conversion of the PDEs to ODEs. The Matlab and Maple software will be available for download from this website shortly. www.pdecomp.net Includes a spectrum of applications in science, engineering, applied mathematics Presents a combination of numerical and analytical methods Provides transportable computer codes in Matlab and Maple

From the reviews: ".. An excellent reference on undergraduate mathematical computing." (American Mathematical Monthly) "... manuals for such systems (Maple and MATLAB) tend to use trivial examples, making it difficult for new users of such systems to quickly apply their power to real problems. The authors have written a good book to address this need. ... the book is worth buying if you want guidance in applying Maple and MATLAB to problems in the workplace..." (Computing Reviews) ".. The presentation is unique, and extremely interesting. I was thrilled to read this text, and to learn the powerful problem-solving skills presented by these authors. I recommend the text highly, as a learning experience, not only to engineering students, but also to anyone interested in computation." (Mathematics of Computation)
