Covering the full range of channel codes from the most conventional through to the most advanced, the second edition of Turbo Coding, Turbo Equalisation and Space-Time Coding is a self-contained reference on channel coding for wireless channels. The book commences with a historical perspective on the topic, which leads to two basic component codes, convolutional and block codes. It then moves on to turbo codes which exploit iterative decoding by using algorithms, such as the Maximum-A-Posteriori (MAP), Log-MAP and Soft Output Viterbi Algorithm (SOVA), comparing their performance. It also compares Trellis Coded Modulation (TCM), Turbo Trellis Coded Modulation (TTCM), Bit-Interleaved Coded Modulation (BICM) and Iterative BICM (BICM-ID) under various channel conditions. The horizon of the content is then extended to incorporate topics which have found their way into diverse standard systems. These include space-time block and trellis codes, as well as other Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) schemes and near-instantaneously Adaptive Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (AQAM). The book also elaborates on turbo equalisation by providing a detailed portrayal of recent advances in partial response modulation schemes using diverse channel codes. A radically new aspect for this second edition is the discussion of multi-level coding and sphere-packing schemes, Extrinsic Information Transfer (EXIT) charts, as well as an introduction to the family of Generalized Low Density Parity Check codes. This new edition includes recent advances in near-capacity turbo-transceivers as well as new sections on multi-level coding schemes and of Generalized Low Density Parity Check codes Comparatively studies diverse channel coded and turbo detected systems to give all-inclusive information for researchers, engineers and students Details EXIT-chart based irregular transceiver designs Uses rich performance comparisons as well as diverse near-capacity design examples

Presenting a thorough overview of bit-interleaved codedmodulation (BICM), this book introduces the tools for the analysisand design of BICM transceivers. It explains in details thefunctioning principles of BICM and proposes a refined probabilisticmodeling of the reliability metrics–the so-calledL-values–which are at the core of the BICM receivers. Alternatives for transceiver design based on these models are thenstudied. Providing new insights into the analysis of BICM, this book isunique in its approach, providing a general framework for analysisand design, focusing on communication theoretic aspects of BICMtransceivers. It adopts a tutorial approach, explains the problemsin simple terms with the aid of multiple examples and case studies, and provides solutions using accessible mathematical tools. The book will be an excellent resource for researchers inacademia and industry: graduate students, academics, developmentengineers, and R & D managers. The coding for the wireless channel is the main topic of this Book. Mainly, single user transmission over one or more antennas is considered in the first part, where a novel multidimensional labeling with a designed interleaver which outperforms the two dimensional Bit Interleaved Coded Modulation with Iterative Decoding (BICM-ID) in the whole SNR region is presented. Modulation doping is used to compensate for the loss at the low SNR regions. The design is extended to the two transmit antennas case and a multidimensional constellation labeling for Bit Interleaved Space Time Coded Modulation with Iterative Decoding (BI-STCM-ID) is proposed . The transmission over two uncorrelated frequency bands and the construction of a simple 2 x 2 x 2 full-rate full-diversity space time frequency code based on constellation rotation is presented. In the second part the multi-user scenario from information theoretic point of view is briefly presented."

Multi Antenna Transceiver Techniques For 3g And Beyond written by Ari Hottinen and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-08-13 with Technology & Engineering categories.
Multi-antenna techniques are widely considered to be the most promising avenue for significantly increasing the bandwidth efficiency of wireless data transmission systems. In so called MIMO (multiple input multiple output) systems, multiple antennas are deployed both at the transmitter and the receiver. In MISO (multiple input single output) systems, the receiver has only one antenna, and the multiple transmit antennas are used for transmit diversity. The key aspects of multiple antenna transceiver techniques for evolving 3G systems and beyond are presented. MIMO and MISO (transmit diversity) techniques are explained in a common setting. In particular, the book covers linear processing transmit diversity methods with and without side information at the transmitter (feedback), including the current transmit diversity concepts in the WCDMA standards, as well as promising MIMO concepts, crucial for future high data rate systems. As an example, MIMO and MISO aspects of 3GPP HSDPA (high speed downlink packet access) will be considered. Furthermore, examples of high throughput, low complexity space-time codes will be provided, when signalling without side information (open loop concepts). The theory of linear space-time block codes will be developed, and optimal non-orthogonal high throughput codes will be constructed, both for MIMO and MISO systems. Performance may be further improved by feedback from receiver to transmitter. The corresponding closed loop modes in the current 3GPP specifications will be discussed, along with their extensions for more than two transmit antennas. In addition, feedback signalling for MIMO channels will be addressed. Optimal quantisation methods of the feedback messages will be discussed. Finally, hybrid schemes are constructed, where the amount of feedback is reduced using partly open, partly closed loop signalling. * Provides a concise and up-to-date description of perhaps the most active area of research in wireless communications * Unique in presenting recent developments in both WCDMA and MIMO * MIMO and MISO techniques are explained in a common setting * Special emphasis is placed on combining theoretical understanding with engineering applicability For Research engineers in academia and industry, and development engineers in 3G system design as well as research students.
