One of the most heartbreaking experiences of my life was simply asking people questions about statements in the Bible because my life was about the Word of God. People and preachers rarely had any answer except you have to just have faith. With all the suffering in the world, as I was a child, it did not seem that faith was doing the job. So I went in search of my own answers, and this book is the surprising result. My first surprise was that it seemed the Bible followed Darwins theory up until the creation of humans. Also, there seemed to be information that followed quantum physics. Then I noticed that Genesis gave the entire creation of life from Genesis 1:1 to Genesis 2:4, and then it seemed to start an entirely new book and go into the process of how it was done. I spent almost fifty years reading and studying, and one day I realized we are still in the sixth day of creation. Man has not reached the age of perfection yet. This is also in agreement with the ages of man and the ice age. It was at this time that I felt compelled to put it into a book.

Have you ever found yourself at the beginning of a big life change? Maybe you’re getting married, or divorced. Maybe you’re having a child, or burying a parent. Maybe you’ve been promoted, or lost a job you loved. Maybe you’ve moved; maybe you feel stuck. These big changes hit us hard—it’s easy to lose our way. It’s easy to think that God is leaving us alone in them. The good news is that the God who spoke the world into existence, who lovingly brought into being everything seen and unseen, is speaking into your big change. Drawing from the story of creation in Genesis, Beginnings offers an empowering message of how God works through the transition in our lives. As God orchestrated the ultimate transition when he created everything from nothing, he can handle the overwhelming details in your life. Beginnings is for everyone who faces significant transition—in career, in relationships, in life stage, whether good or bad. By exploring the first chapter in Genesis—day by day, creative act by creative act—Steve Wiens shows us how beginnings work, and how God works through our beginnings.

Proceeding from Voltaire's conclusion that "God is a comedian playing to an audience that's afraid to laugh," this book seeks to uncover some of the many instances in which biblical texts offer readers grace and insight through the divine gifts of humor, wit, and laughter. Readers are invited to take a strikingly unusual, if not unique, approach to the texts, imagining not only the voice inflections but also the body language of their narrators to capture the humorous nuances and ripples of laughter that likely attended the first telling of many biblical stories.

Christ of the Creation Days by Greg Girard I have long been fascinated by the great types of Scripture: not clever connections invented by over ingenious preachers, but the patterns that underlie the way God repeatedly works both in the people and the events of the Bible. Some of them are quite explicit. Others you dont see till they are pointed out to you, and then you wonder how you could have missed them. The more we see one part of Scripture underlining another, in what I think of as the repeat of patterns, the greater its integrity is seen to be, and the clearer its message. Greg Girard opens our eyes to a set of correspondences that could not be more basic to the biblical revelation of God. Should it surprise us that the sequence of his creative action in the making of the world should be the same shape as the sequence of his redemptive action in revealing himself to his people? Yet I for one had never made the connection. The creation of light, the separation of land and sea, the stars of heaven, the man appointed to rule all that lives-of course these images reappear elsewhere; but had you noticed where, and at what crucial points in the Bible story? The author deserves our thanks for this illuminating and inspiring study. This is an extraordinary text. It addresses no small number of traditional theological concerns. However, it addresses them mindful of the earthiness of life. Thus this is also a book that is concerned to address questions of migration, brain physiology, emotional trauma, time, love, and death. It is written not to satisfy a bloodless lust for the resolution of puzzles. It is written with confidence that tangible bodies think. Thus there is an earthy quality to its writing, both in what it addresses and how it is addressed. The manner of After Crucifixion may be imagined as a moment in which in some unpretentious underground venue the deep, resonant percussions of subwoofers roll as a carnal wave across the chest and throat before they become the bass line in a conscious musical thought. After Crucifixion has been written for the ears, the chest, the throat, no less than for focused, deliberate, disciplined thought. But it is written in particular for bodies befriended by the Mystery of life and death--in the carnal event of the crucifixion/resurrection of the Galilean peasant Jesus, who unhands the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil and thus invites us to join him in prayer.
