It is with great pleasure that I offer my reflections on Professor Anthony N. Michel's retirement from the University of Notre Dame. I have known Tony since 1984 when he joined the University of Notre Dame's faculty as Chair of the Depart ment of Electrical Engineering. Tony has had a long and outstanding career. As a researcher, he has made im portant contributions in several areas of systems theory and control theory, espe cially stability analysis of large-scale dynamical systems. The numerous awards he received from the professional societies, particularly the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), are a testament to his accomplishments in research. He received the IEEE Control Systems Society's Best Transactions Paper Award (1978), and the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society's Guillemin-Cauer Prize Paper Award (1984) and Myril B. Reed Outstanding Paper Award (1993), among others. In addition, he was a Fulbright Scholar (1992) and received the Alexander von Hum boldt Forschungspreis (Alexander von Humboldt Research Award for Senior U.S. Scientists) from the German government (1997). To date, he has written eight books and published over 150 archival journal papers. Tony is also an effective administrator who inspires high academic standards.

"This authoritative treatment covers theory, optimal estimation and a range of practical applications. The first book on the subject, and written by leading researchers, this clear and rigorous work presents a comprehensive theory for both the stability boundary and the stability regions of a range of nonlinear dynamical systems including continuous, discrete, complex, two-time-scale and non-hyperbolic systems, illustrated with numerical examples. The authors also propose new concepts of quasi-stability region and of relevant stability regions and their complete characterisations. Optimal schemes for estimating stability regions of general nonlinear dynamical systems are also covered, and finally the authors describe and explain how the theory is applied in applications including direct methods for power system transient stability analysis, nonlinear optimisation for finding a set of high-quality optimal solutions, stabilisation of nonlinear systems, ecosystem dynamics, and immunisation problems"--

Regularity And Complexity In Dynamical Systems written by Albert C. J. Luo and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-07-12 with Mathematics categories.
Regularity and Complexity in Dynamical Systems describes periodic and chaotic behaviors in dynamical systems, including continuous, discrete, impulsive, discontinuous, and switching systems. In traditional analysis, the periodic and chaotic behaviors in continuous, nonlinear dynamical systems were extensively discussed even if unsolved. In recent years, there has been an increasing amount of interest in periodic and chaotic behaviors in discontinuous dynamical systems because such dynamical systems are prevalent in engineering. Usually, the smoothening of discontinuous dynamical system is adopted in order to use the theory of continuous dynamical systems. However, such technique cannot provide suitable results in such discontinuous systems. In this book, an alternative way is presented to discuss the periodic and chaotic behaviors in discontinuous dynamical systems.

Time and Methods in Environmental Interfaces Modelling: Personal Insights considers the use of time in environmental interfaces modeling and introduce new methods, from the global scale (e.g. climate modeling) to the micro scale (e.g. cell and nanotubes modeling), which primarily arise from the personal research insights of the authors. As the field of environmental science requires the application of new fundamental approaches that can lead to a better understanding of environmental phenomena, this book helps necessitate new approaches in modeling, including category theory, that follow new achievements in physics, mathematics, biology, and chemistry. - Includes the use of new mathematical tools, such as category theory, mathematical theory of general systems and formal concept analysis, matrix theory tools, stability analysis, and pseudospectra - Presents new content related to time in relation to physics and biology - Combines the word of an experienced author team with over 35 papers of collective experience

Dynamical Systems written by René Lozi and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-06-23 with Mathematics categories.
This book offers a captivating exploration of the intersection between mathematics, chaos theory, and dynamical systems through the personal journeys of twelve renowned mathematicians and physicists from China, Europe, Russia, and the USA. The first section of the book provides an intimate look into the formative experiences and early steps of these scientists. In these life stories, the names of other famous mathematicians arise, crisscrossing all the stories in unexpected ways. The second part of the book explores the practical applications of chaotic attractors in various fields. These include chaos-based encryption in cryptography, sensor and actuator placement in Chua circuits for control systems, and chaotic dynamics in remote sensing for crop modeling. It also highlights the role of chaos theory in the development of memristors following Leon Chua’s 1971 discovery, leading to advances in nonlinear dynamics, hyperchaos, and memristor-based systems. The chapters further examine how chaos theory addresses modern challenges such as modeling COVID-19 spread using SEIR models and optimizing mobile network design, demonstrating the wide-reaching impact of chaotic systems in real-world applications. This book will be of great value to students and researchers in mathematics, physics, engineering, and related disciplines seeking to deepen their understanding of chaotic dynamical systems and their applications. This book includes a revised introduction and a new chapter. The remaining chapters were originally published in Journal of Difference Equations and Applications.
