This annual series presents fundamental research on the theory and practice of management. Volume 7 contains articles presented at the 2001 meeting of the International Conferences on Advances in Management (ICAM), held in Athens, Greece. ICAM's goal is to be truly comparative-in terms of the broad scope of management perspectives, in the broad-ranging locations of its research as well as its application, and in its comparisons of findings, methodologies, and operational definitions. This volume exemplifies ICAM's objectives. Part 1, "Organization Theory, Learning, and Effectiveness," revisits the management theory jungle, reports on the development organizational learning capabilities in Europe, encourages organizational learning through cultural diversity, and reviews the role of corporate parent . Part 2, "Behavior and Attitudes in Organizations," considers the relationships of religion to organizational citizenship and whistle-blowing behaviors, identifies antecedents of misbehavior among nurses and social welfare workers, and uses process framework as a method to depict encroaching processes and change in organizations. Part 3, "International and Cross-Cultural Management," looks at various issues of management abroad. Topics include the dimensions and levels of power bases and their relationships to subordinates' compliance and satisfaction in the U.S. and South Korea, the relationship between empowerment and quality of work life in Mexico, and case studies of organizational intellectual capital in China. Part 4, "Management in the Public Sector," turns attention to efforts to recognize and build on differences in public administration. Part 5, "Managing Human Resources," addresses the nature of researcher values in human resource management and considers recent publications in mainstream human resources in order to isolate the patterns of research. Part 6, "Role of Research in Management," discusses the need for processual thinking. It presents a list of factors contrasting two views of management: the classical view, and the "process view of management." This volume will be of particular interest to corporate executives, economists, and labor studies specialists.

Relational Economics written by Josef Wieland and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-05-27 with Business & Economics categories.

This book introduces the research agenda of relational economics as a political economy for the governance of local and global economic transactions in modern societies. It analyses the mechanisms of global value creation and production networks by studying cooperation in intra- and inter-firm networks, intersectoral stakeholder management, and transcultural leadership. The author develops a categorical taxonomy for private and public value creation based on the effective and efficient interlinking of, and interaction between, a range of resources and abilities. In contrast to mainstream economics, which largely focuses on the laws of discrete and dyadic exchange transactions, this book assesses the polyvalent characteristics of relational transactions. The chief categories involved in an economic theory of the relations between events are the relational transactions and their various forms of governance; the polycontextual cooperation between economic, political and civil society agents; and the factor incomes and relational rents that relational transactions produce. Today, relational transactions are the rule, not the exception, in modern economies and their global value creation networks. Given its scope and focus, this book will appeal to scholars of economics, economic sociology, organisational studies and related fields.

The Organizational Learning Cycle written by Nancy M. Dixon and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-07-05 with Business & Economics categories.

The Organizational Learning Cycle was the first book to provide the theory that underpins organizational learning. Its sophisticated approach enabled readers to not only understand how, but more importantly why, organizations are able to learn. This new edition takes the original concepts and theories and shows how they might, and are, being put into action. With five new or completely revised chapters, Nancy Dixon describes the kind of infrastructure organizations need to put in place; there are examples of knowledge databases, whole systems in the room processes and after-action reviews originating from organizations that are making real progress with these ideas. A clearer relationship between organizational learning and more participative forms of organizational governance is drawn, along with responsibilities that employees need to take on to enable, and partake in, collective learning. With new case material from BP, the US Army, Ernst and Young, and the Bank of Montreal, for example, this book shows how you can make use of the collective reasoning, intelligence and knowledge of the organization and channel it into its ongoing and future development.

`[I}n this volume, contributors from the fields of both strategic management and organizational behaviour have been brought together to explore the relationship between organizational learning and competitive advantage.... In their editorial introduction, Edmonson and Moingeon trace changes within the fields of strategy and organizational development that have encouraged a more integrative approach. On the strategy side, the emergence of the "resource view of the firm" has drawn attention to the importance of firm-specific resources including knowledge and how it is acquired, as sources of competitive advantage. On the other hand, organizational development practitioners have become increasingly interested in relating their traditional tasks more firmly to strategic business issues and concerns. The topic of organizational learning can thus be seen as a bridge, which is the intention of this volume to begin constructing, between these two fields.... The papers presented in this book offer a rich variety of concepts, frameworks and provovative ideas on organizational learning and its strategic implications. In addition, the theoretical presentations are often supported by reports of the results of original research in a number of companies′ - Management Learning `This book takes an important first step towards integrating theories of competitive advantage and... organizational learning, a rapprochement which can come none too soon for the management practitioner′ - Peter Senge, Director of the Center for Organizational Learning, MIT Sloan School of Management, USA Organizations need to develop learning strategies to survive and develop in increasingly uncertain and changing markets. In this book, researchers from Europe and the United States explore theories of strategic management and organizational behaviour to establish a link between learning processes and competitive advantage, within a variety of organizational settings. The diverse, multidisciplinary approach takes an important step towards developing a new integrative theory of management.

Relational Leadership written by Nicholas Clarke and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-02-19 with Business & Economics categories.

The traditional idea of leadership as being about the solo, heroic leader has now run its course. A new way of thinking about leadership is now needed to address major challenges such as achieving greater social responsibility, enhancing leadership capacity and recognising the importance of context as affecting how leadership occurs. Relational leadership offers a new perspective of leadership that addresses these challenges. At its core, relational leadership recognises leadership as centred in the relationships that form between both formal and informal leaders and those that follow them, far more so than the personality or behaviours of individual leaders. This book introduces readers to the most up-to-date research in this area and the differing theoretical perspectives that can help us better understand leadership as a relational phenomenon. Important characteristics of effective leadership relationships such as trust, respect and mutuality are discussed, focusing on how they develop and how they bring about leadership effects. Specific forms of relational leadership such as shared leadership, responsible leadership, global team leadership and complexity leadership are addressed in subsequent chapters. The book is the first to examine recent ideas about how these new forms of relational leadership are put into practice as well as techniques, tools and strategies available to organisations to help do so. The inclusion of three detailed case studies is specifically designed to help readers understand many of the key concepts covered in the book, with key learning points emphasised. The book offers an excellent summary of the state-of-the-art topics in this new and exciting field of relational leadership.
