O tratamento que se pretendeu dar ao termo "minorias" nesta obra está alinhado àquela preconizada pela Suprema Corte dos Estados Unidos, que, em seu extenso histórico de decisões, entende que podem pertencer a esses grupos determinadas classes de pessoas que: 1) não são representadas politicamente como os demais cidadãos (maiorias), bem como aqueles que: 2) sofrem discriminação ao longo da história em razão de características particulares de sua personalidade. A organização da presente obra partiu da premissa de que não seria necessário politizar as discussões – no sentido partidaresco da expressão – pois cada tema aqui tratado tem se mostrado urgente sem depender deste ou daquele governo, desta ou daquela ideologia. Portanto, os autores convidados tiveram total liberdade para abordarem os temas segundo suas óticas particulares, sempre preocupados com a contemporaneidade da tratativa. Os autores participantes compõem um interessante espectro geográfico, pois estão radicados em oito estados diferentes do país, a saber: Espírito Santo, Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Paraná, Santa Catarina, São Paulo e Rio Grande do Sul. O resultado foram 29 textos consistentes e alinhados com a preocupação de encontrar solução jurídica para os problemas apresentados.
