"Paisagens urbanas: fotografia e modernidade em Belém do Pará (1846-1908)" propõe uma discussão sobre a relação entre "Fotografia & fotógrafos" e "Fotografia & cidade". No início da fotografia na cidade de Belém, constatou-se vários ateliês que foram instalados, organizando um comércio de fotografia na Amazônia. Nesse contexto, apresento um olhar sobre a produção do fotógrafo Felipe Augusto Fidanza, o qual construiu um acervo documental importante para a história sobre a cidade e seus agentes sociais, ao longo do século XIX e início do século XX, uma vez que seu trabalho revela cenas urbanas do cotidiano que fazem parte da história de Belém e, desse modo, permite a construção de uma memória para e sobre a cidade. A contribuição deste estudo se baseia na produção fotográfica como principal documento de análise historiográfica, em que a fotografia representa um testemunho e revela o passado, na intensidade em que o historiador a questiona. A linguagem visual analisada neste estudo permite mostrar, entre outros temas, a forma como os indivíduos se fizeram representar nas paisagens urbanas, dando visibilidade aos tipos sociais que foram flagrados sutilmente pelas câmeras fotográficas que estavam a serviço da propaganda do governo, que tinha o objetivo de divulgar uma cidade moderna, revelando a intensidade e a rapidez com que desejava alcançar a modernidade, ao mesmo tempo em que traz à luz uma cidade que tentava reproduzir os modelos provenientes da Europa.

A definitive intellectual history of landscape urbanism It has become conventional to think of urbanism and landscape as opposing one another—or to think of landscape as merely providing temporary relief from urban life as shaped by buildings and infrastructure. But, driven in part by environmental concerns, landscape has recently emerged as a model and medium for the city, with some theorists arguing that landscape architects are the urbanists of our age. In Landscape as Urbanism, one of the field's pioneers presents a powerful case for rethinking the city through landscape. Charles Waldheim traces the roots of landscape as a form of urbanism from its origins in the Renaissance through the twentieth century.
