Catalogo delle mostre: Roma, Musei di Villa Torlonia, Casino dei Principi, 26 febbraio – 28 settembre 2014 Roma, Istituto nazionale per la grafica, Museo didattico, 25 febbraio – 30 marzo 2014 Paolo Antonio Paschetto (Torre Pellice 1885-1963), attivo a Roma dagli inizi del Novecento agli anni Cinquanta, è stato con Duilio Cambellotti, Vittorio Grassi e Umberto Bottazzi tra i protagonisti del modernismo romano. Il suo nome è forse poco noto, ma notissimo è l'Emblema della Repubblica italiana da lui ideato, a seguito di un concorso lungo e complesso. L'opera di Paschetto va ricordata non solo per questo, ma per la sua poliedrica attività artistica: con salda formazione accademica e linguaggio del tutto personale, ha affrontato con eguale eleganza la grande decorazione, la pubblicità, la grafica istituzionale e le arti applicate. Notevoli testimonianze sono presenti in luoghi di culto, quali i templi protestanti di piazza Cavour e di via XX Settembre, ed in residenze private ed edifici pubblici quali il Ministero della Pubblica Istruzione. Dal suo archivio privato provengono i preziosi materiali qui presentati per la prima volta.

This book examines how the nation – and its (fundamental) law – are ‘sensed’ by way of various aesthetic forms from the age of revolution up until our age of contested democratic legitimacy. Contemporary democratic legitimacy is tied, among other things, to consent, to representation, to the identity of ruler and ruled, and, of course, to legality and the legal forms through which democracy is structured. This book expands the ways in which we can understand and appreciate democratic legitimacy. If (democratic) communities are “imagined” this book suggests that their “rightfulness” must be “sensed” – analogously to the need for justice not only to be done, but to be seen to be done. This book brings together legal, historical and philosophical perspectives on the representation and iconography of the nation in the European, North American and Australian contexts from contributors in law, political science, history, art history and philosophy.

Altre restano, col loro linguaggio fatto di stimoli, in grado di parlare a chi ha la volontà e il desiderio di continuare a interrogarli.
