Partial differential equations are a vital part of any course in pure or applied mathematics. This book will be invaluable to anyone looking for a lucid but comprehensive introduction to PDEs. Designed to strike a balance between theory and practical problems, it covers all major methods as well as their historical backgrounds, theoretical rigour, and geometric significance. The book is divided into three parts. It starts with basic topics like ordinary differential equations, multivariable calculus, and geometry. This is followed by important techniques to solve certain types of partial differential equations. The last part is devoted to first, second, and higher-order PDEs. The chapters have been arranged to help students develop their knowledge gradually and systematically. Each method is discussed through theoretical descriptions in the form of theorems followed by illustrative problems to help the readers. Finally, numerous solved examples and practice problems helps the student learn to apply this knowledge.

Goals and Emphasis of the Book Mathematicians have begun to find productive ways to incorporate computing power into the mathematics curriculum. There is no attempt here to use computing to avoid doing differential equations and linear algebra. The goal is to make some first ex plorations in the subject accessible to students who have had one year of calculus. Some of the sciences are now using the symbol-manipulative power of Mathemat ica to make more of their subject accessible. This book is one way of doing so for differential equations and linear algebra. I believe that if a student's first exposure to a subject is pleasant and exciting, then that student will seek out ways to continue the study of the subject. The theory of differential equations and of linear algebra permeates the discussion. Every topic is supported by a statement of the theory. But the primary thrust here is obtaining solutions and information about solutions, rather than proving theorems. There are other courses where proving theorems is central. The goals of this text are to establish a solid understanding of the notion of solution, and an appreciation for the confidence that the theory gives during a search for solutions. Later the student can have the same confidence while personally developing the theory.

Partial Differential Equations For Mathematical Physicists written by Bijan Kumar Bagchi and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-07-02 with Mathematics categories.
Partial Differential Equations for Mathematical Physicists is intended for graduate students, researchers of theoretical physics and applied mathematics, and professionals who want to take a course in partial differential equations. This book offers the essentials of the subject with the prerequisite being only an elementary knowledge of introductory calculus, ordinary differential equations, and certain aspects of classical mechanics. We have stressed more the methodologies of partial differential equations and how they can be implemented as tools for extracting their solutions rather than dwelling on the foundational aspects. After covering some basic material, the book proceeds to focus mostly on the three main types of second order linear equations, namely those belonging to the elliptic, hyperbolic, and parabolic classes. For such equations a detailed treatment is given of the derivation of Green's functions, and of the roles of characteristics and techniques required in handling the solutions with the expected amount of rigor. In this regard we have discussed at length the method of separation variables, application of Green's function technique, and employment of Fourier and Laplace's transforms. Also collected in the appendices are some useful results from the Dirac delta function, Fourier transform, and Laplace transform meant to be used as supplementary materials to the text. A good number of problems is worked out and an equally large number of exercises has been appended at the end of each chapter keeping in mind the needs of the students. It is expected that this book will provide a systematic and unitary coverage of the basics of partial differential equations. Key Features An adequate and substantive exposition of the subject. Covers a wide range of important topics. Maintains mathematical rigor throughout. Organizes materials in a self-contained way with each chapter ending with a summary. Contains a large number of worked out problems.

Differential Equations Theory And Applications written by David Betounes and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-06-29 with Mathematics categories.
This book was written as a comprehensive introduction to the theory of ordinary differential equations with a focus on mechanics and dynamical systems as time-honored and important applications of this theory. His torically, these were the applications that spurred the development of the mathematical theory and in hindsight they are still the best applications for illustrating the concepts, ideas, and impact of the theory. While the book is intended for traditional graduate students in mathe matics, the material is organized so that the book can also be used in a wider setting within today's modern university and society (see "Ways to Use the Book" below). In particular, it is hoped that interdisciplinary programs with courses that combine students in mathematics, physics, engineering, and other sciences can benefit from using this text. Working professionals in any of these fields should be able to profit too by study of this text. An important, but optional component of the book (based on the in structor's or reader's preferences) is its computer material. The book is one of the few graduate differential equations texts that use the computer to enhance the concepts and theory normally taught to first- and second-year graduate students in mathematics. I have made every attempt to blend to gether the traditional theoretical material on differential equations and the new, exciting techniques afforded by computer algebra systems (CAS), like Maple, Mathematica, or Matlab.

This book presents comprehensive coverage of the fundamental concepts and applications of partial differential equations (PDEs). It is designed for the undergraduate [BA/BSc(Hons.)] and postgraduate (MA/MSc) students of mathematics, and conforms to the course curriculum prescribed by UGC. The text is broadly organized into two parts. The first part (Lessons 1 to 15) mostly covers the first-order equations in two variables. In these lessons, the mathematical importance of PDEs of first order in physics and applied sciences has also been highlighted. The other part (Lessons 16 to 50) deals with the various properties of second-order and first-order PDEs. The book emphasizes the applications of PDEs and covers various important topics such as the Hamilton–Jacobi equation, Conservation laws, Similarity solution, Asymptotics and Power series solution and many more. The graded problems, the techniques for solving them, and a large number of exercises with hints and answers help students gain the necessary skill and confidence in handling the subject. Key Features : 1. Presents self-contained topics in a cohesive style. 2. Includes about 300 worked-out examples to enable students to understand the theory and inherent aspects of PDEs. 3. Provides around 450 unsolved problems with hints and answers to help students assess their comprehension of the subject.

This textbook presents a first introduction to PDEs on an elementary level, enabling the reader to understand what partial differential equations are, where they come from and how they can be solved. The intention is that the reader understands the basic principles which are valid for particular types of PDEs, and to acquire some classical methods to solve them, thus the authors restrict their considerations to fundamental types of equations and basic methods. Only basic facts from calculus and linear ordinary differential equations of first and second order are needed as a prerequisite. An elementary introduction to the basic principles of partial differential equations. With many illustrations. The book is addressed to students who intend to specialize in mathematics as well as to students of physics, engineering, and economics.
