With 2003 being the 100th anniversary of modern aviation, Passenger Behaviour was published at a milestone for the aviation industry. Remarkable achievements in engineering have made air travel highly accessible within the span of a single lifetime. However, when evolutionary barriers are exceeded various penalties are exacted. The most common experienced by air passengers include motion sickness, jetlag and increased arousal and stress at different stages of flight. Air travel also brings us into closer contact with strangers, making our examination and understanding of the social psychology of behaviour within groups (among passengers) especially relevant. This book examines a wide range of topics that help the reader to acquire a psychological understanding of how air travel impacts on human relationships; behaviour as well as physiological functions. Written by leading authorities in their areas, it is intended primarily for those with an interest in passenger behaviour and those who work professionally in commercial aviation. This includes pilots, cabin crew, ground staff, airline and airport managers, aviation psychologists, human factors specialists, aerospace medical/nursing personnel and aircraft designers and manufacturers. As air travel being an integral part of most people's lives, this book will also be of interest to anyone who travels either on a frequent or infrequent basis.

The NRMA-ACT Road Safety Trust commissioned the Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC) to research the potentially constructive roles that passengers can play to positively influence the behaviour of drivers, and from this research, to make recommendations for countermeasures that are designed to enhance driver and passenger safety in the ACT. This study was partitioned into five parts: a review of the literature on the interaction between drivers and passengers; a summary of ACT crash data pertaining to passengers; administration via telephone of a survey; the conduct of three focus groups; and recommendations for countermeasure development and future research.

Abstract: A Study of Change of Passenger Travel Behaviour in relation to the Commencement of New Railway Systems in NW & NE NT Abstract Railways play a vital role in serving the transport needs of Hong Kong and rail would be promoted to form the backbone of public transport system. It is also the government's target to raise the railway patronage upto 40-50% in 2016. To achieve this target, a number of new railway services, including Tseung Kwan O Extension (TKE), West Rail (WR), Ma On Shan Rail (MOSR), Shatin Central Link (SCL), Kowloon Southern Link (KSL) etc have been and will be constructed to link up new towns with the urban area. The construction cost for these new rail lines reaches 200 billion. The key concern is: would the new railway service welcome by passengers? This dissertation is aimed to reveal passengers travel characteristics after the commencement of Tseung Kwan O Extension, West Rail and Ma On Shan Rail in North-east and North-West NT and find out factors that affecting passengers' modal choice. To start, the current transport policy towards railway service in Hong Kong is examined. Then, there is a literature review on the impact of new railway service or transport infrastructure on people's travel characteristics and lifestyle and factors affecting the modal choice of passengers. From literature review, it is found that perception, personal attributes, and response are of particular importance in understanding the planning implication of transport improvement. To have a better understanding on the travel behaviour of passengers in NE & NW NT after the commencement of new railway services, a travel characteristics survey was conducted in January 2005. The survey reveals that after the commencement of WR, TKE and MOSR, the number of trips and interchange frequency increases, while traveling time and waiting time reduces. Passengers also need to pay slightly more traveling cost if they choose to use new railway service. Overall, the railway patronage has raised from 33% to 36% and the franchised buses trips has reduced from 38% to 36% after the commenced of new ii A Study of Change of Passenger Travel Behaviour in relation to the Commencement of New Railway Systems in NW & NE NT railway services. It is also exposed from the survey that time and interchange are the two aspects that have great influence in passengers modal choices. Finally, to push up the railway patronage, a number of the recommendations for further improving railway patronage are provided, it includes planning the rail routes which can transport passengers to most popular destinations, providing interchange incentive to passengers, improving the accessibility of railway stations. Taking a critical approach to the air passenger experience, this book considers the representations, embodied practices and materialities of air travel. Concerned with the politics and social justice issues of travel and mobility, it examines the passenger and their experience of the airport, fellow passengers, flying during the COVID-19 pandemic, and response to the issue of air travel sustainability. It explores the diverse experiences of those with a disability or fear of flying. The volume brings the journey to the fore as a complex and meaningful experience, filling a gap in the social science research of tourist behaviour where, traditionally, the focus has been the destination experience. The book will be of interest to scholars from a range of social science disciplines and fields of study including tourism studies, mobility studies, cultural studies, and disability studies.
