The introduction of high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) to the analysis of peptides and proteins some 25 years ago revolutionized the biological sciences by enabling the rapid and sensitive analysis of peptide and protein structure through the exquisite speed, sensitivity, and resolution that can be easily obtained. Today, HPLC in its various modes has become the pivotal technique in the characterization of peptides and proteins and currently plays a critical role in both our understanding of biological processes and in the development of peptide- and protein-based pharmaceuticals. The number of applications of HPLC in peptide and protein purification continues to expand at an extremely rapid rate. Solid-phase peptide synthesis and recombinant DNA techniques have allowed the production of large quantities of peptides and proteins that need to be highly purified. HPLC techniques are also used extensively in the isolation and characterization of novel proteins that will become increasingly important in the postgenomic age. The design of multidimensional purification schemes to achieve high levels of product purity further demonstrates the power of HPLC techniques not only in the characterization of cellular events, but also in the production of pepti- and protein-based therapeutics. HPLC continues to be at the heart of the analytical techniques with which scientists in both academia and in industry must arm themselves to be able to fully characterize the identity, purity, and potency of peptides and proteins.

A Practical Guide To Protein And Peptide Purification For Microsequencing written by Paul T. Matsudaira and has been published by Gulf Professional Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1993-05-20 with Medical categories.
Why a Second Edition? The Second Edition provides practical answers to the general question, "How can I obtain useful sequence information from my protein or peptide?" rather than the more specific question asked in the first edition, "How can I obtain the N-terminal sequence?" Important new methods include ways of dealing with blocked N termini, computer analysis of protein sequences, and the recent revolution in mass spectrometry. Mass spectrophotometric characterization of proteins and peptides N-terminal sequencing of proteins with blocked N termini Internal amino acid sequence analysis after protease digestion in-gel and on-blot Improved microscale peptide purification methods Computer analysis of protein sequences New protocols tested and refined through everyday use in authors' laboratories Updated reference chapter covering all aspects of protein microsequencing

Pcr Primer Design written by Anton Yuryev and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-02-03 with Science categories.
In the past decade, molecular biology has been transformed from the art of cloning a single gene to a statistical science measuring and calculating properties of entire genomes. New high-throughput methods have been developed for genome sequencing and studying the cell at different systematic levels such as transcriptome, proteome, metabolome and other -omes. At the heart of most high-throughput methods is the technique of polymerase chain reaction (PCR). PCR Primer Design focuses on primer design, which is critical to both the efficiency and the accuracy of the PCR. With intricate descriptions of basic approaches as well as specialized methods, this volume is an exceptional reference for all those involved in studying the genome. In PCR Primer Design, authors describe basic approaches for PCR primer design in addition to specialized methods. These state-of-the-art methods can be used for both genome-scale experiments and for small-scale individual PCR amplifications. This volume will be useful for organizations performing whole genome studies, companies designing instruments that utilize PCR, and individual scientists – geneticists, molecular biologists, molecular geneticists, and more – who routinely use PCR in their research.

A growing body of scientific evidence has revealed that many food peptides exhibit specific biological activities in addition to their established nutritional value. Bioactive peptides present in foods may help reduce the worldwide epidemic of chronic diseases that account for a great number of premature deaths annually. Bioactive peptides can be defined as isolated small fragments of proteins which provide some physiological health benefits. They act as potential modifiers reducing the risk of many chronic diseases. Bioactive Peptides from Food: Sources, Analysis, and Functions considers fundamental concepts, sources, hydrolysis, fractionation, purification, analysis, chemical synthesis, functions, and regulatory status of nutraceutical bioactive peptides. Methods of isolation of these peptides from different protein sources with their in vitro and vivo physiological effects are addressed. Divided into seven sections, this book delves into how these peptides play a major role in the development of various functional foods. Numerous bioactive peptides have been reported in recent years as naturally present or generated from food proteins of different origins like milk, eggs, soya, fish, and meat. Key Features: Includes a detailed study of the different sources of bioactive peptides Discusses the health benefits, such as antimicrobial, antiallergic, antihypertensive, antitumor, and immunomodulatory properties of peptides Explorates the state of the art analysis methods of peptides Discovers the bioinformatics of possible bioactive peptides Written by experts in their field from around the world, Bioactive Peptides from Food reveals the world of databases of peptides. It is a great resource for food scientists, technologists, chemists, nutrition researchers, producers, and processors working in the whole food science and technology field as well as those who are interested in the development of innovative functional products.
