Introduction To Computer System Performance Evaluation written by Krishna Kant and has been published by McGraw-Hill Companies this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1992 with Computers categories.

In this book, Krishna Kant provides a completely up-to-date treatment of the fundamental techniques of computer system performance modeling and evaluation. He discusses measurement, simulation, and analysis, and places a strong emphasis on analysis by including such topics as basic and advanced queuing theory, product form networks, aggregation, decomposition, performance bounds, and various forms of approximations. Applications involving synchronization between various activities are presented in a chapter on Petri net-based performance modeling, and a final chapter covers a wide range of problems involving steady state analysis, transient analysis, and optimization.

Developing Performance Support for Computer Systems: A Strategy for Maximizing Usability and Learnability provides detailed planning, design, and development guidance for generating performance support for new or upgraded computer systems. Performance support includes documentation, online help, coaches and wizards, training, and other materials necessary to enable users to perform their jobs more efficiently and effectively. This volume offers a strategy for maximizing ease-of-use and ease-of-learning through an integrated performance support systems approach. The text provides how-to guidance throughout that developers can apply directly to the design of their performance support tools and products. Rather than cover a few specific topic areas, it examines the entire spectrum of performance support. The book explains how to match performance support methods to task requirements, gives an overview of important user characteristics, and provides general guidance for presentation, layout, formatting, media selection, the use of color and icons, and accessibility. Evaluation checklists are included in the appendices and are also available online. Although this book primarily addresses the development of performance support for large software systems, the principles and approaches are valuable for any systems development environment.

Assessing the performance of complex, expensive computer systems is a practical necessity and technical challenge. Performance parameters are a set of precisely defined descriptors of efficiency, helping operators to determine if the system is meeting stated objectives. It is important to understand the descriptors, the relationships between them, and how they are influenced by choices in system architecture, design, and operations. This book is concerned with performance as opposed to function, and the reader is assumed to be familiar with functional aspects of machine organization and programming. Performance evaluation brings together considerations of hardware, software, human, and management factors. This book is intended for senior undergraduates, graduate students, and computer professionals.

Performance And Reliability Analysis Of Computer Systems written by Robin A. Sahner and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Computers categories.

Performance and Reliability Analysis of Computer Systems: An Example-Based Approach Using the SHARPE Software Package provides a variety of probabilistic, discrete-state models used to assess the reliability and performance of computer and communication systems. The models included are combinatorial reliability models (reliability block diagrams, fault trees and reliability graphs), directed, acyclic task precedence graphs, Markov and semi-Markov models (including Markov reward models), product-form queueing networks and generalized stochastic Petri nets. A practical approach to system modeling is followed; all of the examples described are solved and analyzed using the SHARPE tool. In structuring the book, the authors have been careful to provide the reader with a methodological approach to analytical modeling techniques. These techniques are not seen as alternatives but rather as an integral part of a single process of assessment which, by hierarchically combining results from different kinds of models, makes it possible to use state-space methods for those parts of a system that require them and non-state-space methods for the more well-behaved parts of the system. The SHARPE (Symbolic Hierarchical Automated Reliability and Performance Evaluator) package is the `toolchest' that allows the authors to specify stochastic models easily and solve them quickly, adopting model hierarchies and very efficient solution techniques. All the models described in the book are specified and solved using the SHARPE language; its syntax is described and the source code of almost all the examples discussed is provided. Audience: Suitable for use in advanced level courses covering reliability and performance of computer and communications systems and by researchers and practicing engineers whose work involves modeling of system performance and reliability.
