Perspectives On Research Assessment In Architecture Music And The Arts written by Fredrik Nilsson and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-02-03 with Architecture categories.

Research in the creative fields of architecture, design, music and the arts has experienced dynamic development for over two decades. The research in these practice- and arts-based fields has become increasingly mature but has also led to various discussions on what constitutes doctoral proficiency in these fields. The term ‘doctorateness’ is often used when referring to the assessment of the production of doctoral research and the research competence of research students, but in architecture and the arts, the concept of doctorateness has not yet attained a clearly articulated definition. The assessment of quality has been practiced by way of supervising, mentoring and the evaluation of dissertations but much less discussed. This book offers perspectives on how to qualify and assess research in architecture, music and the arts. It creates a broader arena for discussion on doctorateness by establishing a framework for its application to creative fields. The book is grouped into three sections and includes contributions from international experts in the various fields working in Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain, the Netherlands and the UK. The first section offers general frameworks for further conceptualising doctorateness in the fields in question. It is followed by a section that describes and discusses various experiences, concerns and visions on the production and assessment of doctoral research reporting from doctoral programmes in different stages of development. The third section includes future-oriented perspectives on knowledge-building processes, and asks how the ongoing, profound changes in academia could influence the concept of quality in both doctoral process and product. The book presents different perspectives on research assessment practices and developments of relevant criteria in the practice-based and creative fields of architecture and the arts. The contributions propose ways of framing this issue conceptually, show the need for awareness of the specific context and tradition programmes develop and give proposals for various potential trajectories for the future.

The discipline of architecture is currently undergoing a significant change as professional practice and academia seem to be transforming one another specifically through succinct research undertakings. This book continues the discussion started in The Changing Shape of Practice – Integrating Research and Design in Architecture on architectural offices’ modes of research and lines of inquiry in architecture and how it reshapes practice. The book aims to contribute to the mapping and discussion on research in architectural practice and its transformational impact and gives input to the discussions on where the architectural profession is heading. In this second volume, various research initiatives and modes in architectural practices are portrayed. The book also includes contributions that broaden the scope and put the developments into larger contexts, and present an overview of developments from different regional perspectives and of various social aspects of architecture. It also relates the developments in practice to educational efforts and to initiatives where the more traditional role of architects is challenged. The contributions include chapters by Walter Unterrainer, Anthony Burke, Renée Cheng and Andrea J. Johnson, and Michael U. Hensel, and on the practices atelier d’architecture autogérée, Helen & Hard, MVRDV and The Why Factory, NADAAA & Nader Tehrani, Nordic – Office of Architecture, Schmidt Hammer Lassen, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, Void, Sarah Wigglesworth Architects, and Älvstranden Utveckling.

Perspectives On Learning Assessment In The Arts In Higher Education written by Diane Leduc and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-11-04 with Education categories.

Drawing on theoretical and empirical insights from art teachers in Canada and Europe, this edited volume explores the question of how learning in the arts can be effectively and fairly assessed in the context of higher education. The chapters consider a rich variety of assessment practices across music, visual and plastic arts, performing arts, design, fashion, dance and music and illustrate how knowledge, competencies, skills and progress can be viably and fairly assessed. Contextual challenges to assessment are also considered in depth, and particular attention is paid to the challenges of reconciling teaching in the arts, aimed at an intuitive transformation of the student, and assessing learning that takes on its meaning in subjectivity and sensitivity. This text will benefit researchers, academics and educators in higher education with an interest in assessment in the artistic disciplines and in the topic of creativity more broadly. Those specifically interested in educational assessment policy and the visual arts will also benefit from this book.

Artistic research has become an established mode of inquiry and knowledge production in many fields. Johanna Schindler examines the collaborative practices of two artistic research projects in the fields of digital musical instrument design and responsive environments. How are individual research modes organized? Which forms of knowledge are at stake? And what sort of influence do institutional settings, spatial arrangements, and boundary objects have on the emerging research dynamics? Schindler's ethnographic study explores these questions and suggests concrete measurements that can be utilized to adapt the research environments, funding structures, and evaluation criteria of artistic research projects to the specific needs of this emerging field.

Change And Stability In Thesis And Dissertation Writing written by Brian Paltridge and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-12-14 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

Examining recent changes in the once stable genre of doctoral thesis and dissertation writing, this book explores how these changes impact on the nature of the doctoral thesis/dissertation itself. Covering different theories of genre, Brian Paltridge and Sue Starfield focus on the concepts of evolution, innovation and emergence in the context of the production and reception of doctoral theses and dissertations. Specifically concerned with this genre in the humanities, social sciences and visual and performing arts, this book also investigates the forces which are shaping changes in this high-stakes genre, as well as those which act as constraints. Employing textography as its methodological approach, the book provides multiple perspectives on the ways in which doctoral theses and dissertations are subject to forces of continuity and change in the academy. Analyses of the 'new humanities' doctorate, professional doctorates, practice-based doctorates, and the doctorate by publication contribute to understandings of new variants of the doctoral dissertation genre. The book paves the way for a new generation of doctoral students and asks, 'what might the doctorate of the future look like?'.

Ca Re 3 Frameworks Of Design Driven Research written by Borrego, Ignacio and has been published by Berlin Universities Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-03-02 with Architecture categories.

After the six conferences for artistic and architectural research CA²RE+ has contributed substantially to the fact that design-driven research today is a widely established and scientifically accepted research method on most European countries and the number of involved universities is an indicator for a rapidly growing community in the field of practice-based research. This big effort has meant an interchange of knowledge and at the same time the construction of an international net with very valuable connections. We have created a collective learning environment where we have developed a multidisciplinary approach to a design-driven methodology on scientific research along six steps: observation, sharing, comparison, reflection, reformulation and recommendation, that arrive now to an end, or at least to a preliminary evaluation after this three-year journey. In this final book we collect and share the results of the last two events (Ljubljana and Delft) and the recommendations and conclusions from all partners participating in the whole process.

Constructing Urban Space With Sounds And Music written by Ricciarda Belgiojoso and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-05-23 with Social Science categories.

While we are used to looking around us, we are less used to listening to what happens around us. And yet, the noises we produce reveal our way of life, and learning to master them is a necessity. This book aims at drawing the reader’s attention to the sound of the urban environment. The topic is by its very nature complex, as it involves sounds and noises, urban space and social activities. Using an interdisciplinary approach, it examines a heterogeneous selection of experimentations from the domains of music, art and architecture. Significant case studies of pieces of music, public art works and scientific research in the field of urban planning are analyzed, investigating the methods that have been adopted and the aural processes that have been generated. It then uses the findings to reconstruct the underlying theories and practices and to show what might be drawn from these procedures applied to urban planning. The overall objective is to learn to build and enrich space with sound, arguing that there is a need to reconsider architecture and urban planning beyond building, and to look to the world of the arts and other disciplines. In doing so, the book guides the reader toward a sensorial architecture, and more generally toward consciously creating environmental architecture which is sustainable and connects with art and which diffuses a culture of sound.
