Full Spectrum covers the Philadelphia Flyers like no other sports franchise has ever been covered before. The Flyers are a unique hockey organization in a special sports town and Full Spectrum gives you the whole story: on the ice, in the dressing room, and behind the scenes. From the campaign to gain an NHL franchise in 1965, through the building of a hard-hitting Stanley Cup championship roster that performed at its best after Kate Smith's thundering rendition of "God Bless America"; from the tragic loss of goaltending great Pelle Lindbergh to the controversy-strewn signing of mega-star Eric Lindros; from the Leach-Barber-Clarke line to the Legion of Doom, Full Spectrum sets new standards for contemporary sports history.

In 1936, the Baseball Hall of Fame was established to honor the legends of the sport. The first inductees were some of the greatest names of the dugout, including Ty Cobb and Babe Ruth. Less than ten years later, in 1945, the Hockey Hall of Fame inducted its first members. The Soccer Hall of Fame was established in 1950, followed by the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1959, and the Football Hall of Fame in 1963. In all, more than 1,400 inductees—players, teams, and behind the scenes personnel—have been enshrined in these five halls of fame. The Sports Hall of Fame Encyclopedia is a comprehensive listing of each inductee elected into one or more of these major sports halls of fame. From Hank Aaron to Fred Zollner, this book contains biographical information, sport and position(s) played, and career statistics (when applicable) of each of the more than 1,400 honorees. The book also includes specific appendixes for each shrine, in which inductees are listed alphabetically and by year of induction. Also included are appendixes briefly describing the history of each hall of fame.

The Philadelphia Flyers joined the National Hockey League (NHL) in 1967, along with five other teams, to double the league from six to twelve teams. They have enjoyed a lot of success since, including being the first expansion team to win the Stanley Cup. They won back-to-back cups in 1973–1974 and 1974–1975 and would qualify for the Stanley Cup Final six more times. The Flyboys have left their mark on the NHL through their physicality, which helped them garner the nickname “Broad Street Bullies.” This book is a pictorial history of the Flyers that examines their modern history and looks back at their legend.

Since the start of the twentieth century, Philadelphia’s professional teams in four major sports have won a combined total of seventeen championships. All of Philadelphia’s current teams—the Phillies in baseball, the Eagles in football, the Flyers in ice hockey, and the 76ers in basketball—have won championships. The list of champs also includes long-gone teams such as the Athletics in baseball, the Warriors in basketball, and the Frankford Yellow Jackets in football. In Rich Westcott’s The Champions of Philadelphia, each of these teams earns a chapter devoted to its championship season. There are detailed descriptions of the games and players, plus noteworthy interviews. Starting with teams from the 1940s, Westcott has interviewed more than fifty players, managers, coaches, and others, including luminaries such as Mike Schmidt, Chuck Bednarik, and Bobby Clarke. The City of Brotherly Love is also a city that loves its champions. Westcott’s in-depth account of Philadelphia’s athletic triumphs will attract fans of each of the four active professional teams. Skyhorse Publishing, as well as our Sports Publishing imprint, are proud to publish a broad range of books for readers interested in sports—books about baseball, pro football, college football, pro and college basketball, hockey, or soccer, we have a book about your sport or your team. Whether you are a New York Yankees fan or hail from Red Sox nation; whether you are a die-hard Green Bay Packers or Dallas Cowboys fan; whether you root for the Kentucky Wildcats, Louisville Cardinals, UCLA Bruins, or Kansas Jayhawks; whether you route for the Boston Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, or Los Angeles Kings; we have a book for you. While not every title we publish becomes a New York Times bestseller or a national bestseller, we are committed to publishing books on subjects that are sometimes overlooked by other publishers and to authors whose work might not otherwise find a home.
