Phronesis As Professional Knowledge written by Elizabeth Anne Kinsella and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-07-30 with Education categories.

Phronesis is the Aristotelian notion of practical wisdom. In this collected series, phronesis is explored as an alternate way of considering professional knowledge. In the present context dominated by technical rationalities and instrumentalist approaches, a re-examination of the concept of phronesis offers a fundamental re-visioning of the educational aims in professional schools and continuing professional education programs. This book originated from a conversation amongst an interdisciplinary group of scholars from education, health, philosophy, and sociology, who share concerns that something of fundamental importance – of moral signi?cance – is missing from the vision of what it means to be a professional. The contributors consider the ways in which phronesis offers a generative possibility for reconsidering the professional knowledge of practitioners. The question at the centre of this inquiry is: “If we take phronesis seriously as an organising framework for professional knowledge, what are the implications for professional education and practice?” A multiplicity of understandings emerge as to what is meant by phronesis and how it might be reinterpreted, understood, applied, and extended in a world radically different to that of the progenitor of the term, Aristotle. For those concerned with professional life this is a conversation not to be missed.

Phronesis, or practical wisdom, has interested philosophers (and more recently psychologists) for millennia. In the last decade or so, a bandwagon of diverse academics has been working with and celebrating the notion of phronesis as a metacognitive capacity, guiding morally aspirational cognition and action. In Phronesis: Retrieving Practical Wisdom in Psychology, Philosophy, and Education, Kristján Kristjánsson and Blaine J. Fowers work through some of the relevant puzzles created by the recent phronesis discourse, filling gaps in the current literatures, and pushing the research agenda in new directions. The book does so in a way that is radically interdisciplinary and draws in equal measure on insights from psychology, philosophy, and education. Through its revised and applied Aristotelianism, the book makes a contribution to vital ongoing debates within moral psychology, moral philosophy, professional ethics, and moral education about the salience of phronesis - addressing the topic accessibly both for academics in key disciplines and for a wider readership of intellectually minded readers. In addition, it offers practical advice about the development and education of phronesis in different areas of professional practice and secondary and college-level education.

In recent years, the environment in which advertising operates has changed. As a result, company leaders are under rising pressure to increase turnover and profits ahead of the industry average while fighting for new consumers. Unfortunately, marketing, as an organizational function, has been downgraded from a strategic role to a marginalized tactical and sales support department. In a comprehensive guide that addresses these current challenges, seasoned marketing executive Corneliu Vilsan leads advertising professionals through a practical set of principles, tools, and case studies to help the marketing function recapture its strategic importance by returning to the basics to create results that can be measured, analyzed, and replicated. While closing the gap between theory and reality and reconciling rational thoughts with creative ones, Vilsan introduces the phronesis methodology to challenge assumptions and encourage the creation of business or case studies to advance marketing excellence. Included are training insights and a marketing effectiveness test that lay the groundwork so an organization can survive and thrive within today’s complex environments. Phronesis Marketing shares wisdom, principles, and tools that guide company leaders through a comprehensive roadmap to improve the strategic position of marketing within their organizations.

Practical Wisdom And Democratic Education written by Samantha Broadhead and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-02-20 with Education categories.

This book explores the development of practical wisdom, or phronesis, within the stories of four mature students studying for degrees in art and design. Through an analysis informed by the ideas of Basil Bernstein and Aristotle, the authors propose that phronesis – or the ability to deliberate well – should be an intrinsic part of a democratic education. As a number of vocational and academic disciplines require deliberation and the ability to draw on knowledge, character and experience, it is essential that no student feels their experience puts them at a disadvantage. The authors argue that democratic education should allow each participant to feel enhanced, included and able to participate in order to create a constructive and reciprocal dialogue. This work will be of value to students and scholars interested in democratic education, the experiences of non-traditional students, and the sociology of education.
