This edited volume explores 21st century stories of hunting, foraging, and fishing for food as unique forms of place-based learning. Through the authors’ narratives, it reveals complex social and ecological relationships while readers sample the flavors of foraging in Portland, Oregon; feel some of what it’s like to grow up hunting and gathering as a person of Oglala Lakota and Shoshone-Bannock descent; track the immersive process of learning to communicate with rocky mountain elk; encounter a road-killed deer as a spontaneous source of local meat, and more. Other topics in the collection connect place, food, and learning to issues of identity, activism, spirituality, food movements, conservation, traditional and elder knowledge, and the ethics related to eating the more-than-human world. This volume will bring lively discussion to courses on place-based learning, food studies, environmental education, outdoor recreation, experiential education, holistic learning, human dimensions of natural resource management, sustainability, food systems, environmental ethics, and others.

Resource Based Learning For Higher And Continuing Education written by John Clarke and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-10-09 with Education categories.
Originally published in 1982 Resource-Based Learning for Higher and Continuing Education was written with the needs in mind of educationists who are responsible for the support of resource-based learning in higher and continuing education. The rationale for this mode of learning is explored and the implications for an institution seeking to provide teaching and learning resources which may well be used by an individual student. To place the reviews of the techniques that follow into a working context, a brief case-history of the Dundee College of Education Learning Resources Project, a major implementation of resource based learning in higher education is presented. The accent throughout the book is on the practical aspects of resource provision. Special attention is given to the problems inherent in the initial preparation by teaching staff of such items as manuscripts for printed works and shooting scripts for visual materials. Economic methods of production and reliable and effective means of presentation for audio-visual materials are also considered, both for use within institutions as well as by home-based students.

Multivocality In World Heritage written by Inger Birkeland and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-06-06 with Social Science categories.
This book examines multivocality in 21st-century World Heritage management through an in-depth interdisciplinary exploration of the complexity and plurality of voices on the ground at a specific World Heritage site, offering new perspectives and insights into the established inherent tension between change and heritage conservation. Through an interdisciplinary approach, the book presents a rich variety of cases grounded in a single World Heritage site, to provide new insights and perspectives on World Heritage as complex local phenomena entangled in global processes. Multivocality and constant change are fundamental to all societies, and must therefore be emphasised and also applied to World Heritage sites, including the UNESCO site under scrutiny in this volume: The Rjukan-Notodden Industrial Heritage Site in Southern Norway. If World Heritage is to promote shared commitments to both conservation and principles of sustainability, the concept of conservation must acknowledge and accommodate change. Bringing together academic approaches from different disciplines, this edited volume addresses this pressing issue by paying serious attention to local complexities and multiple perspectives on the ground. The cases presented demonstrate the relevance of applying a broader sense of multivocality to improve practices in World Heritage management, policymaking, planning and governance. Multivocality emerges as a perspective attentive to diversity and complexity, questioning reductionism, and challenging monocultural thinking in global World Heritage management, while supporting a more democratic multitude of voices in World Heritage sites, both human and more-than-human. This book will be of interest to researchers and students in the multidisciplinary field of heritage, heritage policymakers and bureaucrats, international advisory bodies to UNESCO, as well as managers at different levels in the World Heritage arena.
