Are we all junkies? Online addiction is an ambivalent and emotional phenomenon whose multiple symptoms can no longer be overlooked in society: low attention spans, the search for simple answers to complex questions, radicalisation and polarisation within society, and mental health problems among adults and young people are on the rise. "Always online" with the smartphone is the new normal. All social groups are now affected by online addiction in varying degrees and suffer from the negative effects. The principles of the Enlightenment as the "Age of Reason" are coming under pressure. The concept of truth is dissolving. Traditional gatekeepers such as competent scientists and serious journalists / authors are being replaced by advertising-financed gatekeepers such as Google and Facebook. Democracies and alliances of states are increasingly losing stability. Can we manage to detox? Tackling online addiction is less a problem of knowledge and more one of acceptance and implementation. The biggest obstacle to overcoming online addiction is ourselves. This book describes the causes and effects of online addiction and presents a comprehensive and group-specific toolkit - including technological tools and elements for effective regulation of the internet industry. This toolbox is intended to help free our children, ourselves, our environment and our society from online addiction so that we can once again make the most of the online and offline worlds. Shaping the future or managing the downfall? We should look positively ahead and act with the necessary determination. Hostility towards technology and cultural pessimism are out of place. We have neglected the risks and side effects of the new technologies of the internet and smartphone / tablet for far too long and should now take countermeasures. Purposeful action is of utmost importance for us personally, for future generations and for the future of all humanity in the 21st century.

The Elderly Their Health Their Frail Planet written by Peter William Kent and has been published by Outskirts Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-05-31 with Health & Fitness categories.

This book is principally about health care, health services, the elderly patient, our global population, and the planet they all occupy. It was written for several reasons. Firstly, because the author is quite elderly and thereby accumulated considerable practical and personal insights into America’s medical care and health services for the aged. Secondly, he decided to share several personal medical events and experiences with others. Thirdly, he decided to express his concern for the overall quality of health care in America and to urge further improvements into the nature and character of patient care. Fourthly, he wished to stress the need to noticeably improve global health care and health services planning in the very long term as humanity and nature methodically transform our frail planet. The author argues that medical care in America all too often falls short in meeting the health care needs of the elderly. He states that a large part of such care is preventative and curative in nature and that patient and medical worker relationships are an important aspect of this care. He adds that patient satisfaction with medical care is a key indicator of the quality of service received. Patients have expectations and opinions on the quality of their care. He maintains that health care and service providers have an obligation to offer the best possible care and, beyond that, to steadily improve the quality and value of this care. The author urges professionals to more successfully contribute to the direction of remedial care by the medical and drug industries. He cites numerous opportunities for change in health care and health services and stresses improvement needs in patient and medical care relationships, the medicating of patients, and institutional care giving.

Lawrence Driscoll's fresh examination of the meaning of drugs from the Victorians to the present asks us to listen to historical and current voices whose positions on drugs are at variance with our "truths." Driscoll draws on the work of figures as diverse as William Burroughs, Sigmund Freud, Conan Doyle, and Anna Kavan to shed light on different or silenced ways of talking about drugs and to offer us a historical counter-memory. The result of his work is to unsettle and disturb the familiar parameters that frame our discussion of drugs, revealing that others are available: positions which expose our own constructions as surprisingly limited.

A few years ago, deals were done in dimly-lit side streets or on the phone via a friend of a friend. Today, you can order every conceivable pill or powder with the click of a mouse. But the online market in narcotics isn't just changing the way drugs are bought and sold; it's changing the nature of drugs themselves. Enterprising dealers are using the web to engage highly skilled foreign chemists to tweak the chemical structures of banned drugs - just enough to create a similar effect, just enough to render them legal in most parts of the world. Drugs such as mephedrone (aka meow meow) are marketed as 'not for human consumption', but everyone knows exactly how they're going to be used - what they can't know is whether their use might prove fatal. From UK dancefloors to a department of toxicology, via social networking sites and underground labs, Mike Power explores this agile, international, virtual subculture that will always be one step ahead of the law.

Marijuana is cultivated in nearly every region of the world, from the jungles of Laos to the bedsits of Manchester - and is smoked and enjoyed for medicinal, recreational and spiritual purposes by an estimated 200 million people worldwide. In Pot Planet, Brian Preston set out on a global ganja safari to explore strange new cannabis cultures, to seek out new growers activists and other reefer revolutionaries... and to boldly get baked with each of them. Preston's journeys take him across every stratum of pot cultivation and enjoyment. In Cambodia and Laos he explores the final frontiers of Third World dope tourism. In California, he takes a clear-eyed look at the medicinal marijuana movement, while in Britain, Spain and Switzerland, he finds grudging governments caching up with public tolerance. At the Cannabis cup in Amsterdam he joins the raucous multi-day tasting competition at the international summit of best breeders, growers and connoisseurs in the world. Part investigative travelogue, part cultural history, part manifesto for the unfettered enjoyment of nature's most pleasing herb, Pot Planet is an hilarious odyssey into the multifaceted world of hemp.
