The last few years have witnessed a surge in the development and usage of discretization methods supporting general meshes in geoscience applications. The need for general polyhedral meshes in this context can arise in several situations, including the modelling of petroleum reservoirs and basins, CO2 and nuclear storage sites, etc. In the above and other situations, classical discretization methods are either not viable or require ad hoc modifications that add to the implementation complexity. Discretization methods able to operate on polyhedral meshes and possibly delivering arbitrary-order approximations constitute in this context a veritable technological jump. The goal of this monograph is to establish a state-of-the-art reference on polyhedral methods for geoscience applications by gathering contributions from top-level research groups working on this topic. This book is addressed to graduate students and researchers wishing to deepen their knowledge of advanced numerical methods with a focus on geoscience applications, as well as practitioners of the field.

This book gathers outstanding papers presented at the European Conference on Numerical Mathematics and Advanced Applications, ENUMATH 2023. The conference was held in Lisbon, Portugal, in September 2023. Leading experts in the field presented the latest results and ideas regarding the design, implementation and analysis of numerical algorithms, as well as their applications to relevant societal problems. ENUMATH is a series of conferences held every two years to provide a forum for discussing basic aspects and new trends in numerical mathematics and its scientific and industrial applications, all examined at the highest level of international expertise. The first ENUMATH was held in Paris in 1995, with successive installments at various sites across Europe, including Heidelberg (1997), Jyvaskyla (1999), lschia Porto (2001), Prague (2003), Santiago de Compostela (2005), Graz (2007), Uppsala (2009), Leicester (2011), Lausanne (2013), Ankara (2015), Bergen (2017), and Egmond aan Zee (2019).

The fractal analysis is becoming a very useful tool to process obtained data from chaotic systems in geosciences. It can be used to resolve many ambiguities in this domain. This book contains eight chapters showing the recent applications of the fractal/mutifractal analysis in geosciences. Two chapters are devoted to applications of the fractal analysis in climatology, two of them to data of cosmic and solar geomagnetic data from observatories. Four chapters of the book contain some applications of the (multi-) fractal analysis in exploration geophysics. I believe that the current book is an important source for researchers and students from universities.

Plurigaussian Simulations In Geosciences written by Margaret Armstrong and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-04-17 with Science categories.

Simulation is the fastest developing branch in geostatistics, and simulating the facies inside reservoirs and orebodies is the most exciting part of this. Several methods have been developed to do this (sequential indicator simulations, Boolean methods, Markov chains and plurigaussian simulations). This book focuses on the last type of simulation. It presents the theory required to understand the method, along with the practical examples of applications in mining and and the oil industry as well as tutorial examples. An accompanying CD-ROM featuring demonstration software and color images complement the written text.

The Hybrid High Order Method For Polytopal Meshes written by Daniele Antonio Di Pietro and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-04-03 with Mathematics categories.

This monograph provides an introduction to the design and analysis of Hybrid High-Order methods for diffusive problems, along with a panel of applications to advanced models in computational mechanics. Hybrid High-Order methods are new-generation numerical methods for partial differential equations with features that set them apart from traditional ones. These include: the support of polytopal meshes, including non-star-shaped elements and hanging nodes; the possibility of having arbitrary approximation orders in any space dimension; an enhanced compliance with the physics; and a reduced computational cost thanks to compact stencil and static condensation. The first part of the monograph lays the foundations of the method, considering linear scalar second-order models, including scalar diffusion – possibly heterogeneous and anisotropic – and diffusion-advection-reaction. The second part addresses applications to more complex models from the engineering sciences: non-linear Leray-Lions problems, elasticity, and incompressible fluid flows. This book is primarily intended for graduate students and researchers in applied mathematics and numerical analysis, who will find here valuable analysis tools of general scope.

Integration And Cubature Methods written by Willi Freeden and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-11-22 with Mathematics categories.

In industry and economics, the most common solutions of partial differential equations involving multivariate numerical integration over cuboids include techniques of iterated one-dimensional approximate integration. In geosciences, however, the integrals are extended over potato-like volumes (such as the ball, ellipsoid, geoid, or the Earth) and their boundary surfaces which require specific multi-variate approximate integration methods. Integration and Cubature Methods: A Geomathematically Oriented Course provides a basic foundation for students, researchers, and practitioners interested in precisely these areas, as well as breaking new ground in integration and cubature in geomathematics.
