Demographic Change And Intergenerational Justice written by Joerg Tremmel and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-03-04 with Social Science categories.

Intergenerational justice has been achieved if the opportunities of the members of the next generation to fulfill their needs are better than those of the members of the preceding generation. For this, each generation ought to leave for the next generation an amount of resources is at least equal to its own amount. The book deals with the complex relationship between intergenerational justice and demographic change and is characterized by its interdisciplinary approach. The authors come from a multitude of professional backgrounds and from several countries. This illustrates the implications of the demographic shift from many different perspectives. The book deals not only with the aspects of economic policy but also with environmental, societal and philosophical issues. The comprehensive volume is composed of five sections that pinpoint demographic trends, examine the impact of demographic changes on key indicators, investigate the relationship between key indicators and intergenerational justice, scrutinize population policies, and finally propose ways to implement long-term thinking on these issues.

A Pivotal Moment written by Laurie Ann Mazur and has been published by Island Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-09-26 with Health & Fitness categories.

Through a series of essays by leading demographers, environmentalists and reproductive health advocates, A Pivotal Moment offers a new perspective on the complex connection between population dynamics and environmental quality. It presents the latest research on the relationship between population growth and climate change, ecosystem health and other environmental issues. It surveys the new demographic landscape—in which population growth rates have fallen, but human numbers continue to increase. It looks back at the lessons learned from half a century of population policy—and forward to propose twenty-first century population policies that are sustainable and just. A Pivotal Moment puts forth the concept of “population justice,” which is inspired by reproductive justice and environmental justice movements. Population justice holds that inequality is a root cause of both rapid population growth and environmental degradation. As the authors in this volume explain, to slow population growth and build a sustainable future, women and men need access to voluntary family planning and other reproductive health services. They need education and employment opportunities, especially for women. Population justice means tackling the deep inequities—both gender and economic—that are associated with rapid population growth and unsustainable resource consumption. Where family planning is available, where couples are confident their children will survive, where girls go to school, where young men and women have economic opportunity—there couples will have healthier and smaller families.

Building the Population Bomb carefully examines how the rise of the world's human population came to be understood as problematic by scientists and governments across the globe. It challenges our assumption of population growth as inherently problematic by demonstrating how it is our anxieties over population growth--and not population growth itself--that have detracted from the pursuit of economic, environmental, and reproductive justice.

Ethics And Population Limitation written by Daniel Callahan and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1971 with Social Science categories.

The author examines the general ethical issues, development of ethical criteria, and rights of individuals, governments and voluntary organizations in considering excessive population growth and the ethical dilemma it presents. The question is posed: If traditional values assigned to unrestricted procreation with its concomitant increase in population size are to be revised, what ethical guidelines are necessary? The author sets up some formal criteria and preference ranking. When conditions require limitation of freedom, it should be limited in ways which require least amount of coercion, limit coercion to fewest cases, are most problem-specific, allow most room for dissent of conscience, limit coercion to narrowest range of human rights, least threaten human dignity, and are quickly reversible if conditions change. Freedom of choice in family planning has not yet been tried in the world, nor has an all-out educational effort been made to encourage people to change their habits of procreation. Until these are tried, coercive measures are premature.
