Porous Coordination Polymers: From Fundamentals to Advanced Applications brings together the latest advances in Porous Coordination Polymers (PCPs) for cutting-edge applications. The book begins by introducing PCPs, highlighting their structure, chemistry, basic properties and design approaches. This is followed by a chapter focusing on synthesis methods and mechanical properties. Subsequent chapters provide in-depth coverage of specific target applications, explaining the preparation of PCPs for areas including catalysis and photocatalysis, environmental remediation, gas storage and separation, energy storage and conversion, new generation magnets, nanocarriers in therapeutics, and biomedical imaging. Finally, current challenges and future developments are considered in detail. Porous Coordination Polymers are gaining increasing interest due to their attractive properties, such as structural flexibility, large surface area, tailorable pore size, and functional tunability, in turn enabling a wide range of possible applications which this book aims to highlight and to elucidate. This is a valuable resource for researchers and advanced students across polymer science, inorganic chemistry, environmental science, and materials science and engineering, as well as engineers, scientists, and R&D professionals with an interest in porous coordination polymers (PCPs) and novel polymeric materials for advanced industrial applications. - Explores porous coordination polymers in detail while highlighting key ideas. - Provides in-depth discussion of the design and development of new porous coordination polymers. - Addresses present issues and looks at potential future developments in this innovative field.

Awarded the 2009 Olle Prize! The field of coordination polymer research has undergone rapid expansion in recent years. No longer are these materials the vaguely defined 'insoluble material' at the bottom of your vessel that spell death for your reaction. They have gone from 'polymeric rubbish' to 'materials of the future'. Great leaps in the deliberate design of coordination polymers were made in the 1990s. These were allied with similar advances in related areas such as organic crystal engineering, metallosupramolecular chemistry and X-ray diffraction. No longer did we assemble things atom by atom. Whole molecules were used as building blocks and new materials were made. This is the first book to provide a broad overview of all the major facets of coordination polymer research in one place. It combines chapters on nets and interpenetration with wide-ranging surveys of transition metal and lanthanoid coordination polymers and their properties. The aim is to provide a flavour of each aspect whilst introducing the important concepts and developments using carefully selected examples. After an introduction, the text is split into three sections: -Design (nets, interpenetration, malleability) -Analysis (transition metal coordination polymers, lanthanoid coordination polymers, organometallic networks, organic-inorganic hybrids) -Application (magnetic properties, porosity, acentric and chiral networks, reactive coordination polymers, other properties). Written in the style of a tutorial review, the book is suitable for both senior specialists and new postgraduate students taking their first steps in the field. It also provides an authoritative and detailed reference source.

The declared objective of this book is to provide an introductory review of the various theoretical and practical aspects of adsorption by powders and porous solids with particular reference to materials of technological importance. The primary aim is to meet the needs of students and non-specialists, who are new to surface science or who wish to use the advanced techniques now available for the determination of surface area, pore size and surface characterization. In addition, a critical account is given of recent work on the adsorptive properties of activated carbons, oxides, clays and zeolites. - Provides a comprehensive treatment of adsorption at both the gas/solid interface and the liquid/solid interface - Includes chapters dealing with experimental methodology and the interpretation of adsorption data obtained with porous oxides, carbons and zeolites - Techniques capture the importance of heterogeneous catalysis, chemical engineering and the production of pigments, cements, agrochemicals, and pharmaceuticals

Document from the year 2022 in the subject Chemistry - Macromolecular Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, grade: 17, Gauhati University, language: English, abstract: Porous coordination polymers, also known as metal organic frameworks are a new type of hybrid material constructed via self-assembly of metal ions/metal clusters which function as nodes and organic ligands which act as bridges or linkers. They are one of the earliest developed classes of metal containing polymers. They extend infinitely one, two or three dimensional framework through coordination bonding, hydrogen bonding, π–π stacking, C-H-π interactions as well as van der Waal forces. These weaker non-covalent interactions, are important for the packing of the one dimensional chains, two-dimensional nets and three-dimensional frameworks. In view of the tunable structures and promising properties shown by these systems various complexities have been prepared and thoroughly investigated over last decade. MOFs are currently flourishing fields of research owing to their intriguing structural motifs and various potential applications, in the field of gas storage, gas separation, catalysis, ion exchange, microelectronics, non linear optics, sensors, medicine and molecular magnetism etc. They possess structural regularity, high porosity, high surface area resulting in greater potential applications than conventional zeolites or activated carbons and mesoporous silica. For the construction of porous coordination polymers with diverse structures and properties selection of the special inorganic and organic building blocks is one of the important factors. Multicarboxylate organic ligands have proved to be an excellent choice for the construction of MOFs of higher nuclearity due to their different coordination modes with the metals, molecular flexibilities and structural stabilities. Metal carboxylate linker in combination with cross linked or pillered polypyridine have generated many interesting coordination architecture. Making use of transition metal carboxylate and linear bridging auxiliary ligands it is possible to construct 1-D, 2-D and 3-D porous coordination polymer of different pore structures and porosities. Aside from coordination bonding interactions, various non-covalent bonding or some weak intra- or intermolecular interactions, such as hydrogen-bonding, π–π stacking and C–H–π interactions or van der Waals interactions also influence the formation of final architectures.
